I had made my peace with them changing the name, it doesn’t really matter that much, I don’t look at their names anymore anyways and it doesn’t affect the gameplay. But honestly… the name is ugly IMO. Why not go for McCloud (Joel McCloud, James McCloud, Jesse McCloud), sounds way better, this Cole Cassidy? sorry I don’t see it, it doesn’t fit him but meh, I’ll just ignore it and keep calling him McCree.

I don’t think they own the name McCloud. And at least is not a real person and also it doesn’t make me think of a murdering bank robber.
I would have preferred that they would name him ___, but have him get a codename, like Tracer, Reaper, etc.

Joel McCloud sounds like a highlander. Which, you know, could be an interesting character to add to Overwatch.

From the sound of it, they definitely would feel uncomfortable and offended everytime they drive by McDonalds on their way to work.
Interestingly enough, back when Overwatch was Project TITAN, there was a character concept called “MacCloud” that looked oddly similar to McCree’s design. Thus, McCloud would make more sense: an homage to Project TITAN, since we most likely won’t be getting “Mama Hong” anytime soon.
