Why is this necessary?
Yeah I don’t think that’s a good idea… If anything, McCree needs a nerf, not a buff. I might consider this if they nerf his primary fire or something though.
if your healer were on time you wouldn’t need this. I’m sorry that this game requires coordination. The whole game revolves around healers hitting the right targets as a base, followed by reinhardt / a main tank not suiciding while engaging.
If those two pieces are in place then dps players get to play the most fun fps ever. Otherwise, the dps are just pretty useless.
Meanwhile if the dps at any point decide to throw, the tanks and supports can’t stop it.
but if the dps are trying, then the team with better tanks often wins until around mid-diamond. Then the team with the better dps starts winning because the dps at high tiers start headshotting everyone so that healing no longer matters.
That’s pretty much the summary of how OW plays, and a tiny buff to mccree may seem minor at low ranks where they don’t heal the ulting mccree half the time, but it is probably op when you take into account healing plus tanks zoning much of the enemy team off him during the ult.
Still, I don’t think it is a bad idea to try. But ultimately a 25% damage reduction has less effect than your healers actually noticing you while you ult. The issue with OW is it requires teamwork
Some interesting replies, yet i can’t name an ult OTHER than Deadeye that REQUIRES your team to shield or heal you. It’s an Ult.
They buffed Reaper in this way, because he would simply die during his ult. So, Blizzard recognized that an ult shouldn’t be a guaranteed death with no help from your team.
Pharah comes close, but her damage shoots out instantly, so she could technically kill those who are trying to kill her.
McCree has to stand there and wait for the Deadeye, and is totally vulnerable, doing no damage while he waits.
So, let’s go through the Ults once. Every single one.
Rein - Hammers, doesn’t need to wait for help.
Zarya - Can ult with no help.
Sigma - Has insane mobility during ult
Hog - Blasts people away. Also has 600HP to start with.
Winston - yep
D.VA - Toss and forget
Wrecking Ball - Gets to drop ult, AND stun people in it.
Orisa - Drop and forget
Ana - Boosts AND heals so, you know, the person can perform the ult without dying
Moira - instant blast
Lucio - yep
Mercy - can ult in safety if needed then fly around
Brig - mmm hmm
Zen - yep
Bap - Drops it down, continues to play safely
Sym - No real danger of DYING during the placing of this
Junk - Vulnerable, but he can hide and still control his ult
Hanzo - Fire away
Torb - Can run around and perform ult
Widowmaker - No danger there
Bastion - Can move around
Ashe - Toss Bob and enjoy full control of your own character
Genji - Zips around, lots of movement
Tracer - Toss and get out of there
Reaper - BUFFED the healing not long ago so he could live through his ult
Doomfist - About to die? Escape with that ult! The opposite of dying.
Soldier - Mobile
Pharah - The 2nd most risky, due to lack of mobility. But her damage is instant.
Sombra - Instant
That leaves us…

I don’t see this “the game requires teamwork to ult” ANYWHERE OTHER THAN MCCREE.
Sure, many ults work best with help. But not one single other Ult in the game pretty much requires it.

McCree does not need a nerf. All the hitscans that are medium to long range. McCree being medium to short are quite weak.
Soldier throw two shields in his face. Suddenly he looks bad. Same goes for McCree. Widow now as well. Ashe just got a buff but outside of Bob and dynamite struggles with the same problem.
Hanzo is better than all of them. Reaper. Mei. Doomfist. Even genji. Sombra. You will see all those in overwatch league before you see the above hitscans. With a good reason.
The only hitscan that is actually truly good right now is tracer and she’s always been a special case because she’s more dive oriented than a traditional hitscan.
Anyone can die in their ult.
McCree needs no buffs of any kind
Not a warranted buff, solder, cree, hanzo, ashe, etc… wouldnt be able to kill them anymore and flank deadeye to kill one target would be all we see all day.
The biggest issue with deadeye mostly lies in the tanks. Gm tanks, they literally just walked around the corner with full shield, I deadeye, tanks be like “ight imma head out”. Some big deadeye plays I saw were actually when I played tank and just hugged them as hog or similiar - sure I got a deflected deadeye bullet and died most of the time, but we won the fight with 3-4 kills.

I cant really speak that much to game balance since im not playing that much currently and have never really been past gold but … i have to LOVE that you called it gritty determination its really perfect mccree.

I see mccrees at high rank carrying lots of fights from behind a rein shield even. flank ults after picking off one often work too. Not sure how it will pan out, but I’m for trying it I guess.
Though I think that if you buff mccree ult you may end up needing to alter its charge rate. it’s stupidly easy to charge a half dozen ults each round. if they had guaranteed value he would definitely increase in power a lot
I’m just honest and stream my thoughts out. I try to give it a once through proofread if I have time.
Most people either hold their opinions back or are just so angry at the devs for things that are mostly out of their control (except for punishment levels) that they don’t want to talk.
I feel like there are few people who care about posting on the forums anymore. I use it as a stress relief to wind down sometime. and lately my posts have less toxicity because I don’t play on the korean server. the korean server has too many leavers and throwers. I guess I should expect it since they were running 4dps + every game for several years. That’s not the sign of people who care about winning or maintaining rank.
OW is a good game though and I think the devs are trying to move the game in a better direction. The game is so much better than where the game was 2 years ago, at least from the perspective of tanks/supports. But honestly I really hope they try some massive changes to ranked in OW 2.

You seriously think Deadeye is more risky than Barrage?
Deadeye:
A hitscan ult that requires no aim, only time, to kill up to 6 players at any range - which you can cancel at any time for a free reload. Can be used as an area denial/zoning tool. Movement slowed during effect.
VS
Barrage:
A projectile ult that requires you to basically position on top of the enemy team to get any value. Cannot be cancelled. Projectile spread prevents meaningful damage beyond medium range. Movement locked during effect.
You may not know this but projectiles take time to travel to the enemy, so the damage is actually not instant. When you hit Q for Barrage you are locked in place and a free kill for anyone looking in your direction - which is in the sky, with no nearby cover because you will kill yourself if you hit any obstacles with your rockets. Anyone you don’t kill immediately will kill you immediately.
I think mccree needs a bit of nerf never mind a buff - his picrate is rlly high in higher tiers. I’d say a nerf to his rate of fire would be optimal and put him in line with other dps
