I personally dont have one but I think they LOOK AWESOME , why do some people flame others then they have a max boarder and are like in gold / plat/diamond I dont understand why this is seen as bad
“How can you kill that which has no life?”
Dunno, I’ve never been flamed for having a diamond border, though someone did tell me to go touch grass once. Even though 2000ish hours in a 5 year old game isn’t even that impressive. That said, I also only have like 20 hours of comp experience total so even though I’m high level border, I don’t really have the hours in comp for someone to be like “lol omg hardstuck gold” because I’ve literally never even tried to get out of gold.
Some people equate the later frames with higher skill or think that just because someone has played a lot they should be “better”.
Thus people who are in normal middling ranks but have plat or higher borders are supposedly so bad that even after playing for such a long time they should have better rankings or be playing better…
These people don’t understand what games are for or that fun is different for everyone.
Diamond border looks cool, Platinum border I think looks awful
And generally most of the time people talk trash about someones border is usually someone on an alt account who would also have the same border had they only played one account, but they’re so braindead they don’t realise that nor do they have the intelligence to come up with a better insult
I agree plat boarder looks trash but the diamond one looks AMAZING id love to have one
its a part of rank shaming
you see it as early as silver boarder
I play DPS and Support for fun but since they are low plat high gold (due to me never bothering to climb them) people try to shame me for being such high level and such a low rank
but there is really no excuse to do it
even if they play comp they could just do it for fun and enjoy the team work
I do that for Valorant, I just enjoy teamwork so I play comp instead of unrated.
other than that though some people might just play allot of arcade and quickplay instead of comp
I remember I used to grind quick play before I realized my rank didn’t matter (which in itself is a harder thing for people to learn, both people who play too much competitive and those who are casual quick play warriors)
I personally go into QP to warm up but I get nervous to go into comp I have like a "I really lost moment " so it really hurts to go into another game , I def can’t do games back to back I wish I could tho
That would be why you haven’t experienced it
I used it as a go to insult when my teammates are flaming me, it always shuts them up real quick.
It’s due to the simple fact that they’re in a rank that’s considered low and that they’ve been playing for so long, that’s kinda why it’s seen as a “bad thing”.
If you have a diamond border(I believe a diamond border is around level 2000 or something like that)and youre in gold yelling at everyone just expect the exact verbal abuse coming your way
i just want custom boarders
Shame you can’t hide them
I seen so many people get flamed, like you see a person with a diamond boarder that’s gold SR and people make fun of them for still being low rank after so may hours.
I got the opposite last night. I was really having a great day on Hanzo in QPC, and someone on the other team kept saying “great mm” and “look at the level difference so unfair” because I and a couple of others on my team had gold borders. So I said “dude i’m silver 1.7k* dps, just having a good game for once” and they got even more upset.
*it’s been a long time since I actually touched comp so I don’t even remember my SR, but it was somewhere around that mark, I don’t think I’ve improved much if at all since then
Next time someone tells you that, point out that at 2k hours over 5 years, that means you play an average of 1.09 hours a day.
That’s like, nothing lol.
Just the usual projection, it comes in many forms. Either way, it was my goal to reach that border for myself and I just don’t think it will happen which is sad.
Each border type is every 600 levels so
1-600: bronze
601-1200: silver
1201-1800: gold
1801-2400: platinum
2401-3000: diamond
They have a poor grasp of the game, and see people like Samito with shiny borders on their mains and think that a natural progression to GM is inevitable if you play OW enough. It just doesn’t work that way, considering everyone improves on some level over time and some folks are just casual and never “get the game” really. Most people frankly never improve much after around levels 150-250, sad but true.
I basically retired my oldest account except for getting cosmetics due to the hassle it brings. Interestingly, Gold border gets the most hate over even Plat/Diamond borders, go figure. This whole issue is why borders are gone in OW 2, along with medals and cards. Hints have been made that different borders will come in as a function of achievements, spent Comp points, etc. and no longer are relative to account level.
Just means the base reason will change. Not what comes after.
Sure it does once people grasp that its just a cosmetic and no bearing on level. It’s tantamount to saying people will ride you for having a non-default skin…
