Max-3 min-1 is a mistake with easy fiix

Allowing 3 tanks is just a recipe for disaster. Max/Min mode should be max 2 tanks, max 3 from other roles and minimum 1 from each role.

The problem with allowing 3 tanks is that you are going to make a lot of people play tank that just don’t like tanking. If one team goes 3 tanks then what is the other team going to do to win? They probably need at least 2 tanks, and perhaps 3. But, let’s face it, there are not 6 people out of the 12 wanting to play tank.

We also see in modes like Mystery Heroes that 3 tanks is just the win condition (although it is 5v5 admittedly) and in OQ teams go 3 tanks to win.

Max-2 tanks would still deal with the queue issue exactly the same as max-3 but would not introduce other headaches that max-3-tanks will.

I’d go with Limit 2-6-2. I think that tri-support could lead to some grotty sustain comps that might not be good, but still boring to go up against.

Above all, I’d drop the minimum requirement. It’s not a good idea to try and force people into playing solo tank/support. They’ll leave or throw or go through the motions. If anyone wants a pre-defined composition, well, RQ’s just over there.

This doesn’t really fix any of the issues though. At the end of the day it’s best to have 2 tanks and if you have 1 you’re gonna have a bad time

Fewer people feel forced to play tank, I guess, so it fixes that specific part of the problem but it doesn’t really do much else

At the end of the day most tanks are just horribly designed. If I want to play mauga and no one else on my team wants to pick another tank then I guess I’m just gonna play support or DPS instead because I am NOT gonna solo tank against 2 tanks

Even in kingmaker with tanks losing their passives and the solo tank gaining even more passives the solo tank basically never won in my games. And don’t get me wrong the balance in that mode was awful. If the 2 tanks have 6v6 stats and the solo tank gets 5v5 stats and the kingmaker buffs MAYBE it’ll be fine, but then you just get counterswapped and you probably won’t have any fun anyway

There is a lot smaller difference in win ability of 2 tanks vs. 1 tank than there is from 1 tank vs. 3 tanks. If one team goes 2 tanks the other could still go 1 tank. With max-3 if one team goes 3 tanks the other will need at least 2. So that’s 5 tanks instead of 3 in the max-2 case.

That’s a massive difference considering how few people actually want to play tank.

Imma be honest, I don’t really think it does. In kingmaker the solo tank had a roughly 20% winrate going against 2 tanks in my games. Maybe with 1 vs 3 it goes from 20% to 10-15%. Either way you just lose. It’s not really a tangible difference

Well I’m sure blizzard has the actually data since the sample size of games I had where 1 team had 2 and the other had 1 was very small (<10)

No matter what people won’t want to solo tank against 2 tanks. Most tanks aren’t even viable in that scenario but that’s just a problem with max 3 or 2 in general
