The hero design in this game was always top notch. Now it’s utter turd.

The animation. The over the top non stop gun audio. Clunky, bland tubular weapon “design”. The “LOOK AT ME!” all you can hear or see effect.

Right down to the nondescript, vague and incomprehensible voice lines. Honestly even the voice acting isn’t there on this one.

Seems like they used the last of the OW1 era / Kaplan hero queue and now they’re on to OW2 era designer turd.

What an absolute travesty this blob of a hero is. Now there’s nothing good left.

Everything. Just play a game with it in.

All you can hear is his gun blaring all the time. It even drowns out the garbage he is spewing.

The outline is an indistinguishable blob.
It’s another overly loud “look at me” center of attention character.

A complete and total disaster.

No wonder it’s only on trial.

You’re telling me all his abilities, the fact he’s noisy and more complex than any other tank was determined in 2019? Hmm.

It does for all the other tanks what supports have done for dps in taking over.

We knew what Mauga was going to look like years ago.

The animation… now THAT is a travesty. In several places during the reveal trailer I was convinced a Tf2 sfm animator had taken over.

This is what I’m saying. The design is terrible. The artwork is okay, just looks like any one of them out of the OW2 comics. But the workmanship on the abilities, animation, sounds… it’s all over-the-top garbage.

If you look at the other heroes they had very clear playstyles and relatively few abilities, yet every aspect of them was designed, not to have everything, but to complement a team comp.

This dude is a 1 man 5v5. There’s no supporting him except being a healbot. Just makes the game pointless.

All you can hear or see is this fool charging around.

Imagine rein or winston against this dude. It’s a mess.

He’s probably the first new hero to date that has a somewhat likable character about them.

Kiriko is whiny weeb bait, JQ is pretty lame, Soj is incredibly boring, Ram is neat but is kind of a cardboard baddie, LW is checking boxes, and I forget Illari was anything more than just an attack kit disguised as a support class.

Mauga is about as ballz-2-the-wallz crazy, Gold’s gym charming, Arnold/Sylvester-y, “:notes:You’re Welcome:notes:” as he was slated to be way back when he was first introduced.

I dig it.

Respectfully disagree with everything @trando says. All of it.

Played a few games as Mauga now and whether its as Mauga or against.
Winning or losing.

It’s just ZERO fun.

You know what… it’s hard to say why. It’s just godawful in every respect.

Mauga doesn’t have one ounce of what the other heroes have and I’m talking Kiriko, JQ, Ram, LW, even Sojourn and Iliari like they all have unique and fun playstyles and interesting character.

This dude is just a big annoying blob that takes over all the attention and adds nothing. Like brown plasticine, it’s an amorphous blob of rein, ball, dva, doom, hog… it’s just awful. Honestly, I just genuinely find it disgusting.

He is an evil person… Well probably why people think he is great… Kiriko was not even whiny. If you listen to her voice lines she is caring. Mauga is just a selfish pr!ck

Yeah, Rotating, multibarrel guns should be much quieter. Like in REAL LIFE.

He’s got Deadpool vibes, but like if he was possessed by a Symbiote enhancing his worst traits.

There’s a reason why the Cartmans, Sweet Tooths, Azulas, Jokers, are liked and make good bad guys. Mauga is no exception.

On that note, he might be the first “selfish prick” hero in the game honestly. Nothing wrong with that lol

Yeah I mean sure. But it’s not even realistic sounding either. OW2 was released to much fanfare about he sfx being a big improvement.

The look and sound of these is TERRIBLE. They don’t even feel right when you shoot them.

So this dude they made him Rein-charge-doom-stomp-double-bastion-moira-heal-mei-ult-snare-lifeweaver-get-in-the-way.

It’s the trajectory this game has been on for a long time. A load of graduate-level game designers fiddling around. And that is being very generous.

Art on the characters as ever though is great. Just a pity about the voice actor and voice lines being weak on this one.

I mean idk, he’s very much like JQ.
His personality is “I really like killing!”

He’s basically Baptiste and JQ combined.
Also I’m super disappointed in his voicelines for killing Baptiste. He has very little to say and it’s similar to what he says when killing anyone else. Every other interaction in the game for characters killing others they have history with is good.

That’s why we’re alpha testing it for them now. Later, when it gets into a beta state they’ll start charging us for it. :clown_face:
