The reason why the Matchmaking (MMR) is broken is due to fast Queue Times!!
In OW1, queue times could be anywhere between 8-25 mins or more depending on rank. The reason why these queue times were so long was because the matchmaking was searching for 12 players that were balanced into one match.
Right now, queue times don’t typically go over 5 mins for any role. This is because the matchmaking is not truly looking for balanced matches. It’s just throwing players into matches as quickly as possible so they don’t have to wait long. This then logically explains why you can be in one game where you’re stomping the other team and then next game get stomped.
This is even more the truth when grouped up in a team of 3-5. The system is just throwing you into matches where others have same levels of players in the group. It’s not trying to match you up to skill.

I’d prefer quick queues over even matches, but then again my support queues are 10-20 mins. Put me in masters games plz
Yeah, it was pretty funny when everyone was complaining about poor match quality, it was pretty obvious they changed the matchmaker to prioritize speed over quality

and because there are arguably less players playing Overwatch which limits the pools of similarly skilled players overall
i rather wait 10-15 minutes per match if it means they are balanced and everyone is equal = fun and challenging.

And I can’t stand more than 2 mins for QP and 4 mins for comp. This is only nice theorem that ppl will wait 15 mins for good matches. They will not and those balanced matches wouldn’t be good anyway

Finally, someone realizes the truth of the matter.
Lots of uninformed people are shouting on about how 6v6 wasn’t good due to long ques;
The queue time in 5v5 isn’t shorter mostly because we are missing a tank from each team
The matchmaking time is shorter because they widened the matchmaking creating fast low quality uneven matches.
Bring back 6v6, and fix matchmaking.

As much as I would love balanced matchmaking, I prefer fast queue times. Honestly, the matchmaking is not even half the problem. It’s the playerbase. These kids have the mental of that five year old at the super market throwing a temper tantrum because you ain’t buy the little ninja those OG shark fruit snacks that they do not sell anymore so imma join the freak and cry with him.

It absolutely does in Competitive.
In QP it does it on the team’s average. QUICK is the key part of that mode. If you start tightening the MM on QP , its not QUICK anymore mate.
10 minutes for a queue is too long. I believe most players would rather play an uneven game than having to wait 10 minutes for a game that is not even guaranteed to be balanced.
I also think very short queue times at the expense of match quality is a poor trade-off.
They need to find the sweet spot between the two: as long a queue time without pissing people off so they can provide the best matchmaking experience. I think that would be around 3.5 minutes.
I am also convinced this is regardless of 5v5 or 6v6. If you have a role with short queues it is because the role is unfun, period. And I can tell you playing Tank in 5v5 is way more unfun than in 6v6. Unless you prefer playing rock-paper-scissors to chess…

The comp rank system itself says you can get in with those that are 2 ranks above you if you’re in the metal ranks at least, forgot if that applies higher or not.
For example, a silver can get put up against plat, or go against bronze.
Making anyone stuck in a lower rank practically impossible to get up. Almost every other game is a steamroll by one side or the other.

And it is made like that to look like the game has more players than it actually does.
Hate to break it to you but this already happened in OW1.
I played as a Diamond Tank with Masters all the time and as a Plat DPS, with Silver Tanks and Diamond Supports. Matches were never even and people still climb, blaming the MM for you being stuck is not going to change anything.
Sure, but how often did it happen?
Here, every other match is a steamroll by one side or the other.
In ow1 it was rare if it was a steamroll.
Now that is entirely reversed.
One more thing - longer queue times causes more smurfs. High elo ppl wants to play to. So low elo players have to play with them anyway one way or the other
Absolutely not true, like literally nothing you said is true lol.
In OW1 you had more “fluff” and trickling and staggering because team fights were stupidly long and spammy, that doesn’t mean a steam roll was rare, it was pretty common.
The only issue is that in a 5v5 you lose faster and you lose more team fights per match, so you get the impression you are getting rolled even if you dont lose them by much.
I find the excuse of “Mm is worse because it’s faster” kinda dumb. Like sure if they want to prioritize speed thats fine. But come on i think they can do better than the steamroll fest we typically get.
Not every game needs to be perfect but I’m tired of getting stomped and I’m tired of stomping. They have somehow made Winning and losing equally as boring and frustrating while also upping toxicity.
