MM last took a noticeable dive near the last couple seasons of OW1. Now it feels like we hit a new point in the last month. It’s not even fun at this point when you have literally dead weight on your team going 0-6. It used to be that these sort of players were throwing and deranking but you could wait 10 minutes and get away from players like this. Avoiding and reporting these players now do nothing because almost every game you or the other team gets a new ball & chain to drag the game down.
It’s gotten to the point where it’s better to save yourself time by just leaving the match and playing a different game. Devs need to implement some kind of guardrail for players that are consistently feeding the enemy team because right now it’s not worth our time to play and deal with this every match.
matchmaking have a lot of smurfs, a lot of boosted players by matchmaking so that the distribution of the player base stays stable, so ranking it is meaningless. I noticed smurfing started a lot when overwatch new makeup started.
I dont think it’s smurfs this time. These players are actively engaged and not running into walls or shooting the floor, like it’s clear the skill gap is massive.
Never and I mean it never expect good quality matches on the weekends. Its noticeably looser parameters with inexcusably lopsided team making. They want people in games quick and losing or winning games quick so that people will play a lot on the weekend. Blizzard never cared about quality in the first place they only care about your money. This game lost its passion with Jeff’s departure. We miss you Jeff you were the GOAT and deserved better than what this company did to you.
What do you mean opposite? Smurfs stomp but when their SR gets too high they throw. Best way to throw is to have low accuracy (spam shots into walls and the ground), low APM (abilities rarely used, no crouching, like one button push at a time, etc), high death rate, and intentional misplays (going or diving in 1v5, not healing as support, not creating space as tank, tunnel vision dps, etc)
I dont think these are smurfs deranking because they’re actually using abilities, shooting the enemy, healing, and trying to survive the fight. They’re just really bad at timing cooldowns, aiming, and teamwork. It’s like I’m seeing silver ranked players in master ranked lobbies again.
When Season 1 started the influx of new players/old players coming back was huge and I feel like the MM pushed a lot of those people way too high.
I had games in Diamond I couldn’t even describe how bad those have been. And I mean really really bad. Just yesterday I have played a round where my JPC went 7-15 in a 10 minute game of Runasapi while my Emre was 1-4 with 800 dmg after playing for 4 minutes. I have watched the replay and I can tell you that those players don’t belong to Diamond and not even to Plat.
So I think it’s not rigged, it’s just bad at putting players where they belong (duo queuing makes it even worse) I thought in Season 2 the MM would kinda sort it out but I didn’t.
This 100%. With all the modes they’ve split their playerbase and it feels like there is only 1 mmr type being referenced. They’ll grab a silver/novice and toss them into a diamond/pro match. They eliminated all transparancy because they’re afraid of toxicity, so players have no idea why a complete team roll is happening.
Nah, it’s only been this bad like 3 times that I’ve been playing. You shouldnt be seeing silvers/novice in diamond/pro+ matches. You shouldnt be seeing one team get completely rolled with matches being finished in 7 minutes or less.
My whole point is everytime this has happened since release, this drove many players to quit while inducing more mid-game leavers. The only difference now versus 5 years ago is we have more choices in games to play. With out quality MM, we lose players and with less players the MM will only get worse. Theres been so many suggestions over time of ways to help keep players engaged and informed but I still think the most important thing they need to do is being more transparant.
Make MMR and SR public info
Show each player’s MMR/SR pre-match or post-match
Show MMR/SR team averages again.
Provide breakdown reports and comparisons of mmr/sr gained and loss. (you’re using cooldowns 16% less than someone 5 divisions higher than you, movement & APMs, etc). This could be basic, or they could create a premium subscription or one-time-payment option for extra details.
With enough games, your SR may finally mirror your MMR. But how many games? Is MMR hero based, role based, or just overall?
Nope. It only shows the range. It used to actually give an average, was it mean or median?
True, it gives you a very basic report, however it’s useless with out any comparisons or references. Does that report show how well you did for your current rank? Does it show how well you did compared to someone 10 divisions higher?
Basically, you’re arguing against features that would help people understand the results of a match. We’re about to hit the 10year anniversary and people have been complaining about matchmaking since the first season in 2016. They refuse to add transparancy because they know the matchmaking is tuned for quantity over quality.
On a fresh account, it’s as soon as you finish placements. Everyone else, it’s already locked in.
Only place it isn’t, is when starting stadium. But that modes a mess.
If you can figure out the average, you need to go back and learn some basic maths.
If lobby range is plat 2 to diamond 3… the average is diamond 5.
No. But none of this matters. The game doesn’t actively track performance.
And it would be impossible to compare for example a gold soldier player with a GM one based purely on numbers. It’s quite likely the gold player will have far higher stats in most fields. But that doesn’t mean performance.
You already have the best feature to understand a match result. The replay viewer.
I still get my share of stinkers but I’ve also had some good quality matches lately. Like this one that came down to the last millisecond and our Sierra clutched it in overtime. I’ve had a few games like this where I was expecting a defeat screen but got a victory instead.
Dude that’s my thing, its like everyone but 1-2 players belong in the game and those players are 99% of the time on my team…
I have no issue with these players, they just don’t belong here and it makes for a bad game and nobody has fun because at the end its always “what if” instead of “damn good game, well played” and we all go our way.
