Ever since the new update came out, quick play has been a mess. I can’t even enjoy a normal match without getting steamrolled by either bunch of quick play try-hards or just having bronze/silver players on my team as a GM player. And I mean that quite literally.
I’m not discriminating against anyone with any rank, it’s just not fair for either me or them. I think we all can agree that the matchmaker has gotten worse.
Any other experiences you guys have you want to share about the quick play matchmaker, please let me know because I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks this way.

Cool, thanks.
I haven’t touched the game in a week after coming back for a bit with all the “matchmaking is better” claims by the devs.
Not surprised at all… guess I still won’t even log in. It’s just stupid at this point.

I’ve primarily implied toward quick play’s matchmaking.
While I do think the competitive matchmaker has gotten a bit better, I can’t tell for certain since I haven’t played enough competitive.

Yeah, QP is completely broken still. Came on tonight to try to play about 5 games, and left everyone after a couple minutes. Every single one was created for a steamroll.
which implies the dev team got worse.
you don’t get a worse MM without paying the wrong people a ton of cash that isn’t deserved. I have a list of at least several developers who would step-in and have that MM solved within a week. for free. they have kids, make no money, do math/coding all day, and would for a job at Irvine campus. Within the interview process, they’d have code published for all to see. for everyone everywhere always.
because gaming for gamers by gamers.
Within my first few games today, I had a Comp match that spanned 3 full ranks. This is unacceptable.

As someone who enjoyed playing in Master/GM QP Warrior lobbies a lot back in the day: I haven’t played the game properly for a long time now because of how trash the matchmaking is. Pretty much all the games are just unplayable unfun regardless of how much of a back and forth the game is between teams because trolls/low ranked players plague and ruin most matches. When you’re playing something like a 2v2 or a 3v3 between good players with the rest of the players just being random NPC minions doing pretty much nothing it’s the worst. Anyone would rather play anything else when that happens so I personally have just swapped games altogether and only really play when I have stacks to play with that force at least my team to be good. Otherwise it is impossible to enjoy the game in it’s current state
In short let’s hope that they roll in appropriate matchmaking changes and bring back the black and white MMR stricting that completely denies certain variances between players to even be possible matchups, while also finetuning the MMR system itself to be much less volatile with similarly compensating SR volatility changes so that gains/losses don’t change at all themselves. These seem to be pre-requisites for the overall gameplay to be at an acceptable level hence why it’s asinine that they even removed strict MMR lines and made MMR more volatile to begin with
QP matchmaking is… in strict technical terms… broken as hell.
As the ‘rubbish’ player that keeps being put into games with everyone from diamond to t500, I can safely say it is painful to be the albatross around the neck of your team.
Of course I’ll always try my absolute best, but that’s like watching a fly ‘do their absolute best’ vs a bug zapper, it doesn’t end well.
Eventually you get pretty tired of being cannon fodder. Where are my fellow potatoes at? Are Blizz seriously telling me they can’t get ten people of the same rank in a single game about their supposed millions of players?
We’re not talking about stupid o’clock either, we’re talking peak hours. It’s insane how bad it is.
I’m not going to ask for heads to roll at Blizzard, but something really needs to be done about it.

Before I played and 5 stacked with friends I played two matches in qp.
My first match was a backfill on last point defend kings row. Enemy team had a nasty sombra and a Moira that almost had 40 kills… yeah I understood why the other support left and why I backfilled. Misery pain and suffering. Absolutely horrid. No help from teammates. Ana and I were stuck trying to hold hands and could only be the support for each other.
Second match I was on defend Rialto. I ended up leaving after exhausting myself. I was the only one fighting a ball player that kept trying to backcap and be a nuisance. As a support player that started as brig but had to switch because of their junkrat and pharah, I went Kiriko for their Ana and I couldn’t help much more against the ball. I pinged and even asked in chat for help. I couldn’t do it. I just had to leave before I blew a gasket.
I smoke a cigarette got some beers and settled myself down to just chill with friends and play on my worst role dps to drop the mmr rating but ironically ended up winning a lot.
Basically I’ve learned that if your stacked 3 or more and playing with people of different skill sets the people who play a lot or have a higher rank/mmr gotta play their worst role otherwise it’s goin be a crap time.

thanks to threads like yours and many others I still can keep my distance to this game…haven’t played since…December or November?
I really miss how things were right before the launch of OW2…Still hope for improvement (yea my bad^^)
It is absolutely no fun at all when the ranks are mixed together like a handful of thrown dice. Sure, a small span within a match is bearable and hell yea might even be good. But if they really think stomps / being stomped is any fun or you can learn positive things out of that, things really are looking grim…
I generally don’t complain about matchmaking. I may make little quips about it here and there, but overall I think QP matchmaking has been good…until now.
Something has seemingly been broken. It’s awful this week, particularly when queueing for support. The DPS diffs I’m seeing are astronomical. Far too frequently I’m getting second highest or highest damage and/or kills on my team, while maintaining competitive healing numbers, and still losing because one or both of my DPS have half the damage of the enemy – even on heroes like Junk and Reaper.
I see it on the other roles too of course. Just not as commonly. Sometimes a player’s performance is so bad that I have to pay close attention to make sure they’re not hard throwing. Last night I had a Moira who, 5 minutes in, had roughly 700 heals and even less in damage (nope, she wasn’t backfill). This low performance was not mirrored by any enemy counterpart. Amazingly, we won this match.
I get it. Sometimes people group with new players who are learning the game. I notice when they’re only on my team. I probably don’t notice when they’re only on the enemy team giving us the win, though that most definitely happens too. The problem is that to the best of my memory, I rarely see a low performance mirrored by a player in the same role on the opposing team.
This kind of thing has always been an occasional problem, but this past week it’s gone from occasional to regular. QP matchmaking seems to have been loosened, and yet my queue times for groups larger than two don’t seem to have been reduced (still 7+ minutes). Solo queue times remain the same thankfully (30-60s all roles typically). Duo might actually be a little shorter now, not sure.

You might be matched up against more and more parties. I’ve noticed that enemy teams all of a sudden felt a lot more coordinated recently. But win or lose feels about the same to me.
OW2 is unrewarding even when you win. Steamrolling provides 0 satisfaction to anyone.
That’s all I want. I’m not interested in ranking up or getting better, I’ve got real life stuff for that. I just want some laid back mildly competitive games against other spaz’ like myself and seeing as I’m probably I the dead centre of the curve being in gold, it really shouldn’t be any sort of issue…
