Matchmaker - Real world example

Here is an example from real world situation: Governement doesnt want to repair a route which you have to use every day, so you look for an alternative. Governement doesnt likes that you dont use their bad road anymore which damages your car - so they add a fee to your alternative route to encourage you from traveling there. Did it solved the problem? No! But still plenty of people will advocate governements solution.
AND THATS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM!
I hope you all know that is what?

  • bad road = bad unbalanced unfun and unwinnable match
  • alternative road = leave
  • fee = penalty

How is this a real-world example? In the real world the government would build a better alternate route and charge you to use it. People would pay because they don’t want to ruin their car.

Um sure

Here’s the question I have……how would you solve the matchmaker

(Everyone get ready to take notes)

At this point the devs should just tighten the matchmaking just so players can see those juicy 20-30 minute queues and then they can decide if they hate it. Which they will.

How? Every game system gathers about players every possible data. Not only W/L ratio…

  • KD
  • Hits/miss
  • tracking succes
  • healing done/received
  • reactions
  • cd ussage
  • etc etc etc

If they combine toghether only 10% of the gatherered stats, it cannt happen that a bronzer player appears in Platinum game! Take a note

edit: for the potatoe who said 20-30 min qeue… This happens only in Bronze and very high ranks! What a % population in those 2? Below 5%??? For lets say Gold - Master is enough players. You r delusional

They are right that the current match making system is abyssmal and needs to account for more than it does. I needs to account for stacked allies and try to match players 1 for 1 instead of an MMR average. This game doesn’t have so few players this isn’t reasonable or possible.

lol that like everything that has been holding blizzard back as a whole.

i dont think they have actually solved a single problem in years. They just add things that can ‘handle’ the original, but are also a problem cause they have to be good enough.

so now you have 2 problems, cause the original still exists if the tailored ‘fix’.

so now we have 50 problems… and this goes for balance, balance and talents that punishing you for switching, match making and everything really.

Which is a real same cause the ideas are really good and interesting

They already match players per role per team instead of going with averages. Dunno how you would account for stacked allies, other than they will prefer putting groups vs groups, but of course it doesnt always happen.

They don’t do this. For QP or Stadium. It makes matches pretty rough at times.

They need to try and match groups vs groups. For example a 5 stack should only be against a 3 stack and a duo or a 4 stack and 1 solo. But never more than 1 solo player. The issue is 5 stacks are inherently favored right now because the match making doesn’t value it at all when in reality its an easy trick for more wins. The odds are if you 5 stacks you’re going against 2 or more solo’s.

I mean I’m all for more performance tracking…I think it SHOULD be a part a persons mmr……but that’s still such a small part of what happens during matches

The second someone joins a match and decides they want to play a hero they’ve never played, or they want to play with their buddy that’s 1000 SR lower than they are, or that they think it would be funny to try to spawn camp someone instead of playing with the rest of their team, or that they are not switching off the hero theyre playing that’s being hard countered, or that that they want to try and get some achieve, or that they want to throw, cheat, leave……etc etc etc…stuff that happens in like every single match - all the performance tracking in the world means nothing

Match quality (what’s really being complained about here) is so much more than the player’s MMR

Just as a fyi, the game has had performance based mmr……it wasn’t tangibly better and had its own issues as well (boosting in particular)

Unless a bronze player groups with a plat player.

I have just straight up started reporting replays with unacceptably bad matchmaking.

Why does the “government” care what road you use in the example? They don’t like someone using the better road? Why?

Real world example: you don’t understand basic things about the world, including what motivates other people and institutions. You apply this poor level of reasoning to an unrelated concept and embarrass yourself with the depth of your ignorance and faulty assumptions.

What? you can report replay?

none of that matters (to an extent)

the only thing that matters is completing the objective. The things you list only help towards it

Yeah, you go to ‘history’, create a replay code. Click on the :exclamation: symbol to the right of the game in your replay history. Paste the code in there. Write why you’re reporting it.

I only save it for the really unplayable stomps though. We’re talking 'one side sitting in spawn whilst the other murders anyone who pokes their head out. Not just ‘I lost and I’m feeling salty.’

here is the stark reality to people that say this cant be fixed…

if an ad revenue server can profile you as easy as it does. a video game company has zero excuses.

They dont do match making well because they want to keep the money to themselves and not reinvest into their own business.

Its just a poor excuse.

What a stupid coment… Yeah to win a race you dont need a engine in the car. Only a empty car is enough…

The only way your analogy works would be to look at players’ opinions of it.

45% of players know the matchmaker is complete trash
45% of players are so brainwashed, they think it’s working just fine
10% of players are in groups that are less affected, or totally unaffected by the matchmaker

You know how people during a psychotic episode talk and you have no clue what they’re on about but it makes sense to them? That’s this post.

like what is bro saying

Ad serving is literally engagement optimization. Now you people are asking for EOMM I can’t with this forum :skull:
