Matched again against a victorious opponent and defeated, rarely the other way around!

Two or more players matched and played a game.
Now those same players queued for another game at the same time.

Because its quicker that way! Pro-Tip: Unqueue from games for about 5-10mins to “randomize” your player matching pool.

Well, the game tries (often unsuccessfully) to create balanced matches. To do so, Quickplay does have player MMRs like competitive - it just doesn’t show it to you or anyone else.
The fact that you were matched against a particular player even once before suggests that your MMR is relatively close to them. One single win/loss is unlikely to massively impact your MMR, so your MMR is likely still pretty close to them, which makes it relatively likely that you will encounter that same player again, especially if there aren’t that many players of your skill level playing at the time.
