No idea who made the matchmaking algorithm but maybe they worked on Concord or Marathon because it creates the most one sided ‘auto win’ and ‘auto lose’ matches. Legitimately the worst example of matchmaking in a game.
Please sack those members of your team, they really suck at their job.
Nah, they should promote them. Even when people fully comprehend that engagement based matchmaking is in, they still keep playing the game. That’s a win.
The whole problem is that no matter how meticulous algorithms you write, you just can’t account for moral factors. Even the most advanced AI can’t guess whether a player is in a good mood or feeling well at the moment, whether they warmed up before the ranked game or jumped in cold, whether they’re playing drunk or sober, and stuff like that. Literally, the entire team falls apart because of just one weak link. Usually, the team wins that has the fewest unprepared players. Even if the skills are roughly equal on paper, the morale factor can swing things strongly in a positive or negative direction. That’s just the reality, brother.
I played it! It wasn’t… the worst. I think I played it for like 12 hours during the beta. It was pretty responsive from what I recall, but the characters having like 2 voice lines that they repeated over and over, none of the characters being particularly ‘cool’ nor ‘memorable’ and the way the shields blocked your own bullets…
It was a game that I probably would’ve hopped on once or twice a week for an hour if it had been free to play. But I probably wouldn’t have spent a dime on any of the cosmetics.
this morning i had a 6 game loss streak, then won 1 game the proceded to lose the next 4 games
tonight or i was just playing a couple of hours ago and i had a 4 game winstreak then 1 loss, now i won the next 5 in a row. i quit tho since i was burned out but it is weird that for some reason my teammates magically just got better… i mean i played the same way
it also seems like in 5v5 if your tank is doing well the team has more of a chance to win. those loss streaks i remember the tanks were real suicidal with disregard to their well being and staggered A LOT. mainly those pea brained rein players who just charge every time its on cooldown hehe
Morgan Maadren is listed on their Credits thing as the Systems match making design server Engineer for Overwatch. With Gavin taking some credit too.
There is also a linkdin profile that they have.
I am going to 100% assume that they do not read the forums or play the game itself.
So if you can make some sort of POSITIVE outreach to this person to please fix the game’s match making system and make it in such a way that it recognizes the following:
1 ) First match of the day should be 15% lower in MMR than matches in the previous 24 HOURS.
2 ) if a person is struggling within 2 matches. It is time to bump them down in a skill bracket.
3 ) Skill expression by accuracy should be priority 1 in match making. not groups. or predicted combine win-loss rates.
4 ) players that have less than 50 hours played should be treated as a wildcard player and not be prioritized in matches until 4 minutes have passed for a Q.
5 ) if a person leaves a match, the last person that KO’d them should be flagged as a potential toxic player.
6 ) Never re-backfill a player into the same match they left.
7 ) They should account for how much time each player has been in competitive for that season and the last season.
8 ) if a person nets a win. That should only increase their mmr by 2%. NOT 30% like it really seams to be.
Yeah I just now finished lvl 80 on bp. Deinstalled again for a few seasons… a man can only endure as much of such bad matchmaking, because it just drains and breaks you mentally…
I hate blizzard for what they have done and won’t fix.
I had games where the enemy was favored to win but our team absolutely destroyed them. I don’t think it is possible to create a “perfect” matchmaking system. People can have off-days, maybe someone else plays on their account (friend/family), who knows?!
Same deal with people blaming the matchmaking for not ranking up. Well, the point is for you to face tougher opponents, proving that you are “worthy” to rank up. Problem is, again, that this is near impossible to have it work out flawlessly. The best any matchmaker can do is make rough estimates. “Okay, that person hovers in the range of X-Y. Let’s have them face people that hover in the same area”.
Maybe if you include stats? But that sounds crazy complicated and not efficient. (And it would increase matchmaking. Last thing any game wants is long queue times. I think Blizz had to make adjustments in the past because of that. That is another factor to consider)
Bungie couldn’t do anything edgy at gunpoint. Their games are even more corporate and committee approved than what Blizzard pushes out. I’ve never seen more sterile sci-fi game than Destiny franchise.
