Matches are feeling weird (QP)

I have a hard time articulating what the issue with the current matchmaking is, it feels weird.
I don’t know what to make out of this.

I have matches which are going south hard. I don’t take it, I switch to Sombra and most of the time I can rip through the enemy team, I fix the problem my team can’t handle.

I end up oftentimes with 50-100% more kills than my second DPS.
I win games which should be a loss. As an example Junkertown, defense, last part and 7 minutes on the clock and we hold.
There have been more than enough matches that I can say it’s not a fluke.

On the other other hand I have matches where we just stomp. Like where I am on Mei, where we hard hold on defense.

What is going on here?

I think people are still getting used to perks. I’ve found that even if we stomp points 1&2, 3 can be tough to take with the enemy spawn advantage. My team won’t swap for fear of losing their perks and maybe just hubris that we stomped that far already. But the enemy did swap - and now they hold us for 5 minutes until our team decides to make any changes which is sometimes too late.

I feel this happening as a support. I’ll usually have 50% more kills with Moira or Brig than my dps half the time

There is 100% something weird with the QP matchmaker right now, and I think it’s related to backfills. I had like 3 games last night where I would join a losing game on tank, and then just go 30-0 and stomp the enemy team almost by myself. I check profiles, and its mostly silver and gold players.

This never happened before this season, would always put me with people of similar skill level, and stomps weren’t very common. Matches seem to be balanced if I’m put into it at the start instead of backfilling though.

Theres definitely something odd going on.

I had a match last night. Game was almost over, 3rd round, almost Overtime. I join in as a Tank and somehow we win the match. This happened again on another match, I joined in on the second round, our team was about to lose but we win the round, we go into the third round and win the match. Its quite suprizing and unusual.

It has to be the Perks. Its throwing the balance off, it seems. Now stomps seem less common and can reverse at seemingly random, unexpected times. Personally, I like even if it feels strange.

And to top it off, seen two Battletag Döpplegangers yesturday and over the weekend. Thats a strange sight to see.

Matchmaker is garbage. Blizz can make any changes they want it wont matter until they fix the joke that is matchmaker.

QP matchmaking is not actually matching anything. New players going 10-15 are playing with people who have 3000 hours…

I have screenshots from 2016 with multiple Masters and Silvers in the same lobby (no private profiles, no hidden groups). Stomps have been happening since day 1 and are part of the engagement matchmaking.

OP is describing difficult matches were he has to be the hard carry and proves he is a higher ELO, while the game also gives him extremely easy matches were you don’t even have to play to see the victory screen.

If you ever want to test the system, free-lose hard for 10 matches. See how fast the cheaters are gonna pop in your team…

Dunno if you stomp enemy team and get your perks earlier it’s even more stompy now ? kinda obvious level up system is a weird choice in this game, especially when you can swap hero mid-game

The QP matchmaker is… non-existent.

I have seen teams get 1-2 kills vs a team that is clearly a premade in comms several elos higher getting double digit kills (12-20+) each. It is absolutely FUBAR at this point.

Yeah it’s just wild

On tank it’s especially frustrating when you get a much lower skilled teammate on your team. I am probably around diamond on tank, can even keep up with masters, but I don’t know how to babysit a silver player.

If you don’t mind the mode, try switching to Open Queue QP.

It can be a bit more chaotic, and stomps most certainly happen there, but you have more freedom to swap to something compleeeeetely different if the need arises. And when you lose, the team comps are generally so wacky it doesn’t sting as much.

Where in QP, you can get stuck behind one bad player in an important role, and it’s tougher to compensate.

Plus QP has always had a questionable MM, which has only been made worse with all the F2P players, perks, new modes and maps, etc. You almost have to go into it with a mindset of, I’m going to work on this or that toon, do what I can, and not worry about a loss. There is no rank to worry about, only a stung ego.

Return of the 1-tricking.

100% I’ve been having this exact same thing. Was queing all roles day after perks. Kept getting backfilled into a game as tank almost every time I didn’t have the priority pass. And they were just wipes. At first I thought blizzard was trying out AI in games, only thought otherwise when the enemy started trashtalking. I really don’t think that level of mmr disparity should happen even in qp backfill.

And the backfills are just soo frequent. Out of 40 games that day, I was backfilled at least 15 times.

Not kills but elims, you get credit for throwing one damage orb and tagging all five enemies before they die.

Nothing but loser stacks abusing the matchmaking against randoms.

If this is often the case then you are likely being matched with low elo players. If a single Sombra swap demolishes a team then you know with certainty they are just bad.

There are also a ton of reasons for the game feeling stompy. More returning players, lots of “wide” matches in qp with returning players and grouping friends. Perks have changed a ton of nuance in the game and effectively changed the way a lot of people play and I think the lower you go in terms of player rank the weirder it will get.

Keep in mind that QP always has had very loose matchmaking compared to comp and is a melting pot of players trying to pull different experiences from the mode, so it will naturally be more stompy and imbalanced to some degree without all the other overarching factors anyway.

If I take out both supports on the backline solo, I get kills

I said “Man QP match’s feel weird lately” in a QP match in text chat, which was likely the first thing I’ve said in text chat in months. And I was called toxic and the entire other team just spent the rest of the match trash talking me.

So I’m on another hiatus from text chat, not sure what I was thinking.

game is being mismanaged and poorly directed. the in-game systems are toast and the population is cooked. a lot of what you experience may be soft-cheats, bots, and/or fully sanctioned in-game rigging ™ featuring DDA, EOMM, or SBMM tech ™ that puts fun and engagement above fairness.

in particular for crossplay, the in-game params will just feel different every match. no game-to-game consistency, because someone on their couch or on the schoolbus with thumbsticks is being included in an fps shooter.

Not juts in qp, in comp too.

Unlike in OW1, there are indeed many games in OW2 such that Idk why we won or Idk why we lose.

I think it’s because the game lowered the skill floor more and more since OW2 and it finally broke something, so that the positioning(related to the teammates), teamplay or team composition are more important than individual character-specific skill. But as we know, such things are often pure luck in soloQ quickplay.

This also contaminated MMR as well. Bigger skill diff can be expected in the same MMR than before.

Aaron perhaps wanted to make a casual game by lowering the skill floor as much as possible, but the game ironically becomes more pro-friendly, because such teamplay, composition and etc. are something you can have only in a premade team.
