Mastering Console controls?

So i guess long overdue for this one. I pkay on ps4 and have always struggled with aiming. Im fairly decent and my tracking is good, but the aiming always seems off.

Ive googled many guides over the years and a few set ups feel nice or ok but each seem to have odd reflections on my performance.

On a test range or workshop i hit a lot of shots and everything seems fine. But workshops or live game certain instances seem more favorable than others.

Like itll feel good to turn, but slower movement feels too slow. Or slower shots will feel nice but any time theres fast action itd be nice to move a bit faster. There are other things too, like when jumping around certain movements feel better than others. Its a bit difficult to explain.

I play on ps4, with little thimb stick extenders. I mainly play mei, genji, doom, lucio, zen.

Genji, lucio, and zen give me a bit of a tough time sometimes but its weird because in aim training situations im not that bad. Around like 40% on fast moving targets in a workshop.

Mei im decent with, but most of my ain technique comes from my movement stick, tbh. Kind of feels bad because i dont feel thats “right”

I use dual zone as well. Except genji, ive been trying exponential ramp.

Any help is much appreciated if theres any of you console folk here.

If you’re playing Lucio on controller, you should try using a bumper-jumper button layout. It should help out a lot with aim whilst wallriding as you’re able to freely use both sticks.

Thanks! But its not so much button layout as it is sensitivity and all the additional settings.

A lof of my characters have alternatr button layouts. For example genjis jump is l2, alt fire is r1, dash is l3, and reflect is L1

Put sensitivity up to 100 it’s really not that fast if you play any other shooters start from there once you’re comfortable start lowering the aim smoothing very, very little by little like 2-3 at a time. If you turn that all the way down it’s like flicking a mouse across the screen lol

Thanks ill give it a shot!

Tips i can give you are

  • Find a sens that allows you to precisely aim but fast enough to do a 360 (I personally use 55/55 and 96 aim smoothing)
  • Try to find a global sens for all heroes and stick to it to gain muscle memory
  • Adjust your aim assist strength and window size to your preference (I use 100 aim assist strength and 10 window/aim assit ease in)
  • Practice. A lot of practice. Aim isn’t something you learn in a day.
  • Accept that you can’t hit every single shot

Edit: Also buy a pair of high rise thumbstick extenders (I can’t stress this enough)

The aim system is definitely not the greatest for OW, especially with multiple targets in front of you as the aim assist can cause your reticle to jerk around. You can try playing around with the aim assist buttons or the aim types (dual, exponential ramp, linear).

I was struggling with the same. I mostly play on console. I have about a 1cm high thumbstick extra bit on the right one and that does a lot, BUT!

I recently figured it out. I don’t know how you hold it but here’s what I did:

If you look at your thumb, you see the beginning of your nail. About on the opposite side of that is the thickest part of your thumb, place that in the middle of the stick, so the joint of your thumb is about on the edge of the stick. The tip of your thumb should go over the other side. My hands are big, so this might be a little different for you, but try it with the same priciple.

This gives you a lot mor accurate control over the stick. I started slaying again as Ashe and Sigma having thought I’d lost it. Fragging is fun again!

Tell me if it worked
