Overwatch got rid of it’s DC server in Northern Virginia several seasons ago. When it existed I had 20 ping. Now I get about 45 ping because the closest server is Chicago.
Imagine my surprise when trying Marvel Rivals and my ping is 17 because they actually have both a Virginia and Chicago server. They also have a West Coast one. Not only that but you can choose your server in game! In Overwatch if you want to do that you have to use 3rd party tools.
This is unacceptable that Overwatch does not have an East Coast server. It’s really telling that a new game, in beta, without a revenue stream yet, has more and better servers than a AAA game that makes money hand over fist with supposedly over 100 million players.
45 isn’t bad ping by any means, but going significantly lower than it is gonna feel much better. You can also see the competitive advantage when you play games like Siege. It’s always the people with 9-20 ping getting the most kills.
I will never stop making fun of OW for not having actual east coast servers.
I’m perma locked at 70+ ping with nothing I can ever do it since I live in Florida and there’s just no servers near me apparently.
Any other multiplayer game I’m consistently getting below 30.
Do you understand how impossible it is to dodge a sleep dart on 70+ ping? Consistently getting hit by things 500 feet away with nothing I can feasibly do about it because blizzard can’t afford servers lmao.
Milliseconds are sometimes the difference. It’s a competitive game. That’s why people buy mice with less input lag and monitors with more hertz and video cards capable of pumping out hundreds of fps. Because it’s noticeable and leads to advantages.
Again, why does Blizzard lack not just quantity of servers but quality. Blizzard servers crash. The ping isn’t stable my 45 second ping can become 65. I can sometimes end up on the West Coast with 140 ping.
How is it that NetEase, of all people, is shaming them by doing it better? Like what has happened to Blizzard?
