Marvel Rivals coasting on its IP - old comics

And technically, manga (what intellectuals like the guy you’re responding to would call “weeb trash”) are comic books. The comics are simply published weekly/biweekly/monthly in a magazine, then when enough chapters are assembled, they’re compiled into a volume.

Would the game have been as popular? Probably not. That didn’t help Gundam Evolution much. Albeit it wasn’t necessarily a popular franchise, but things like their shop practices were definitely really bad and I think killed it. It helps that the the foundation of the game works in a fair enough way as a product for the consumer, like not monetizing heroes.

I forgot Gundam Evolution was a thing.

Tbh, I think that an Armored Core esque Gundam pvp game could work. Tbh, I’d pay actual money to play it. It would also give me an excuse to go watch all of Gundam.

We need more mech games…

Making a game based off a well known I.P does help but it’s not a crutch. The game still has to be good as evident if other ganes that have massively flopped despite the names attached:

Kill the Justice league flopped

The Avengers game flopped

Star Wars Outlaws was a joke

DC vs MK was a joke

i can keep going and going.

The game is a good game and that’s what makes it successful. if it was a bad game then it would’ve flopped just like the others

that does exist and its big in Japan. never really caught on anywhere else but its a big deal to them

Except literally none of those titles flopped, lol. They all died soon after release (cough, like I expect from another game that is using an IP as a crutch, cough) but they all sold well. (and better than MR ironically enough, lol)

I can’t give marvel rivals my full seal of approval unfortunately until it gets added to GFN!

I mean the only reason I tried Overwatch was because that was back when Blizzard still had a good reputation. Essentially, I didn’t buy the game, I bought the brand.

Rivals has two things going for it… 1) I’m now familiar with the hero shooter format and 2) yes, because it’s marvel heroes who I recognize from all the comics and movies, it’s fun to sort of ‘live out’ that fantasy. But if I hadn’t played OW first, I know for a fact I wouldn’t care about rivals.

Like I was saying in another post… in OW, I play the heroes for the ‘kit’, or in other words, I choose based on the gameplay style of the hero and not because of the hero themselves. But in Rivals, I will most definitely play a hero just because its a hero I like, and not necessarily because their moves or abilities click with me.

Sounds good to me. Google is a good tool by the way

yeah you should try it

His kit is weird. But real namor is basically a supe clone powerset with a splash of ocean crap, and no heat vision.

Obviously it’s a strong appeal for a big portion of people, but I’m totally disinterested in Marvel (and I straight up despise the male designs visuallt) and I’m still really enjoying Rivals. The kits are interesting and the gameplay gives me that early OW/Paladins vibe.

I thoroughly prefer the characters and universe of Overwatch, but I’ll probably move fully over if 6v6 doesn’t pan out.

Fx. Before i knew anything about the game i told myself i would learn punisher and storm regardless if they are good or not. Storms like my fav xmen and first childhood Waifu, and I’ve read almost all of punishers comics.

Luckily, punisher is awesome. Storm needs buffs. Lol.

The popular IP is just the hook. If the gameplay is trash it will just end up like Mulitiversus no matter how big the IP is.

Anyway doesnt have an S at the end

MR Namor is suppose to anti dive or anti flanker. You’re suppose to a chunk of dmg to the attackers then use your invincibility move to stall and keep yourself safe while your turrets get free dmg or finishes them off. he’s pretty good design. and in comics, i mean yeah he is

Right?!? He can’t even fly in the game!

I don’t mean to be a comic purist or anything. Plus, the setting is explicitly variant characters from around the multiverse, so this is just another version of Namor. And the abilities are flavorful and cool…for Aquaman. So, it’s really just a pet peeve.

You are going to be wrong about that. I know you are biased and want MR to die but its not going to

Midnight Suns is an amazing game that flew under the radar. I finished it on the hardest difficulty I loved it so much. Everyone should go play it right now.
