Map voting just made me ragequit

i just had a game, 2 maps i really enjoy and 1 map thats kinda bad, the majority of votes went on the good maps, bad map had 2 votes (it was 6vs6 so 12 votes total) and it landed on the trash map anyways. im so done with this scam, i straight up left the match after voting was done. this system is so incredibly trash. it is so incredibly demoralizing that you see your fav map, most people pick your fav map and then haha you dont get to play your fav map because the system randomly picked something else.

is there any gamemode in overwatch that doesnt have this trash map system? otherwise im just not playing overwatch for now.

edit: since a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding: what im trying to say is that its annoying that if 9/10 people vote map A and 1 person vote map B and then it lands on map B.

somehow me complaining that getting a map only 1 person voted for when litterally everyone else voted for the other map is being understood as ‘‘so you’re mad you didnt get the map you like’’ its not about the map. i’ll happily play any map if theres a majority for it. its just annoying that the game gives 1 person what they want over 9 people. can you at least make it a 2 minimum limit?

I agree; ironically, for different reasons, as I think that every vote counting and having a shot at deciding the outcome is the only redeeming aspect of this feature.

That doesn’t make sense because without map voting you might still have got a trash map. You just wouldn’t have known.

Worse is the new pattern of trolling where someone waits until the last second, sees which map has no votes, votes for that one and then it gets picked. Some of these people then type in chat to gloat about how they made everyone play the trash map.

They need a minimum 2 votes for a map to be considered (which wouldn’t have helped in your case, but would help in a lot of these trolling cases).

This is literally how it worked before. Nothing has changed except you can significantly improve your odds of playing the map you want. Literally nothing about this system is worse than before, but you’re still mad.

im mad because of the effect that its frustrating that you have the odds set up to be 90% in your favor, you get excited and then boom it lands on the remaining 10%. and for something thats only 10% it seems to be hitting that 10% alot more than… well 10%.

“Seems” is the key word here. There’s something called “frequency bias/illusion” and this phenomenon is at play here, unless you believe that Blizzard purposefully rigged this roulette of theirs to fall on low percentage outcome more often because…

the smart thing to do is to keep record of each match, each percentage of votes and the outcome

Yes

So, instead of just getting that trash map at random and being forced to play it, you’re angry because there existed people who wanted to play it and you’re mad you didn’t get you’re way.

I find the map voting so incredibly inconsistent. The first day I got to play SO MANY payload maps, it was incredible. The second and third day, not so much, and way more instances of payload/hybrid not even being an option to pick.

There are an insane amount of situations where the voting lands on maps with fewer or just one vote that I’m forced to wonder what the statistics really are here. It happens so frequently it feels like the majority almost doesn’t matter majority of the time, ironically.

I’m all for people voting for what they want and trying to keep things fair, but it seems like they didn’t (and still don’t) take their community into consideration. 1) stop exclusively making maps for gamemodes people don’t care for. Please listen to the community’s love for payload/hybrid and actually do something with that instead 2) the amount of people who pick a map purely to troll. Not always, of course, but it happens a lot.

You should never play another video game ever again if this made you rage quit.

That means you are a very unhealthy person with a very unhealthy, codependent relationship to video games and you need to stop.

technically no. under a random map i think i got the most maps in pretty equal amounts. now with this system its route 66, busan, dorado and then those maps again and again. sometimes other maps. but ive seen those 3 at least 5 times each and i havent seen a single circuit royale. the reason i get annoyed isnt because of the map, its because of this fake democracy where 9 out of 10 vote for map A and somehow we end up playing map B. thats whats frustrating, not the map itself

Oh no, he’s leaving because of a fair system

You mean other popular maps that aren’t King’s Row? So you’re playing good maps more?
Wow that’s crazy. And actually sounds less random. And kind of like you were just in one of the lobbies that didn’t win the majority vote.

Think of how many games are going on at once. Choosing maps. They are also picking maps with majority votes. You just happened to be in a lobby that didn’t have that luck. And the next 3 matches where majority wins? You do nothing with that (probably because you like the maps less)

That’s because it’s not a democracy. The votes represent the ratio of chance. You can’t implement majority rules or a bunch of people will never get to play maps they like anymore. This system is designed to cater to the majority while not just completely ignoring everyone else. It’s honestly probably one of the fairest ways they could do map voting.

Those are popular maps? When did that happen?

Unfortunately this is not true.
Had countless games yesterday where a map with one vote won.

It is far less tilting being given a random awful map by blizzard than it is having 9 people vote one map, 1 person voting another, only to have that 1 person map win.

I know, I’m suggesting this is what they SHOULD do.

Ahh yes I see, sorry! The good old English language reading wrong haha.

I 100% am on board with the whole “two votes to be considered” thing.

They are OW1 maps, therefore, they are good.
I don’t entirely agree with it, but I understand some of the why it’s said.
