Map Voting: It needs fixing

Please don’t let a SINGLE vote pick a map if literally EVERYONE ELSE in the lobby picks a different map. It’s happened to me 4 times tonight and they’re always troll picks. 2 of them were Aatlis.

This is honestly the best part about it.

The way the system is right now the majority normally get their way the most of the time - but someone who dares not follow the hive mind still has at least a chance to see their picks - albeit less frequently and only once in awhile.

it’s not a bad thing to have to play less popular maps once in awhile.

My condolences. This is truly just a bad map. And I actually like Flashpoint as a mode too.

I agree. I think that a map should need at least a 2 vote threshold. I like the system of letting the map with fewer votes at least have a chance but I think needing 2 votes minimum isn’t too much to ask.

They should either

  1. require a minimum of 2 votes for a map to be included in the roulette or
  2. apply the roulette only to the 2 maps with the highest votes. If the votes are the same for the 2nd highest pick on 2 of the maps, then only then include all 3.

I understand they want everyone to be included so that maps that most people find awful, but a few people like, get played sometimes. But it would make more sense to fix the awful maps instead.

Without touching the “one vote shouldn’t count” debate because it’s a separate issue from what I want to say . . . . just because someone picks an unpopular map doesn’t necessarily mean they’re trolling. Could be they don’t like the other two options. Could be that they’ve played the other two maps several times already and are bored of them. Could be that they genuinely like the map.

This is what happens to me. I just get bored seeing the same maps again and again and again.

It shouldn’t be a 1-vote threshold, it should be a percentage (or something) of votes.

For example, if only 4 people vote (1, 1, 2), throwing away those single votes means tossing 50% of all votes, and is uniair. Two total (out of 4) to win a map shouldn’t be enough votes, either. On the other side If 12 people vote, maybe tossing out 2-vote maps is fair.

Maybe if up to 6 people vote (must have at least one vote from each team), they can toss out one. 5 votes and under, they all carry equal weight. 7-9 votes they can toss out one. 10-12 votes can toss out two-vote maps (but maybe not if those two-vote maps get one vote from each team).

Overly complex? Yes.

But this is Blizzard.

I have a different take, map vote should give you a pool of maps based off of one game mode. People need to be taken out of their comfort zone and learn to play other modes outside of payload/hybrid.

Me too.

I also get bored seeing Lijiang and Illios get skipped because some Lego stepper decides to pick Aatlas or Circuit Royal just to be funny.

Please yes. Hybrid/Payload need to be deleted from the rotation for a while.

Agreed.

Aatlis is one of my favorite maps. A single vote does not always mean trolling.

Or simply take the 2 maps with the highest votes and then spin on those. In your example for (1,1,2) all maps would be included because the 2 lower voted maps have the same votes. But for (1, 2, 4) and (2, 5, 3), the first map would not be included in both cases.

I think that solves the problem in a less complex way.

What if the votes are even or 3+, 3+, 4+? It’s not fair to exclude maps there.

As I explained for your own example of (1,1,2), all maps would be included. If it was (1,2,2) then both maps with 2 votes would be included.

When considering the 2nd highest vote count, if the remaining maps both have the same count (or all maps have the same count) then all maps would be included.

I guess it could be an issue in 6v6 as there can be more votes. For example, if we have (4, 4, 3), then should a map that got 3 votes really be excluded? That’s quite a lot of votes.

What if I don’t like to read?

Yes, this is what I was getting at with:

It’s kind of why I said if a map has 1+1 vote from both teams it should be included, that’s teamwork via enemies and I think it’s really cute

Just because it’s not a popular map or one you don’t like doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a troll pick. Maybe that’s the map somebody genuinely wants. With it being aatlis maybe they wanted the newest map. Or maybe they just wanted something other than kings row or hybrid/escort for the millionth time that day. Personally I’d prefer they got rid of map voting altogether. The variety of maps and modes was actually nice over playing basically just hybrid. But that’s just me

It’d be much better to implement “allowed maps” in QP. If you check the maps you want, MM finds people who have the common denominator and picks a map among them.

It can make people can play in diverse maps or only one map forever to their liking.

Current map voting forces people playing the same modes forever even if they want to play in diverse maps.

That’s an interesting idea but it would make queue times so much longer

I like voting the way that it is. It would be good if all three maps had to be different game modes though (not 3 push, 3 clash, 3 anything).

The main benefit is that when I see all of the opposition voting for a slightly weird map (like Surivasa), its a stack. Solo me is OUT

If you check only one very unpopular map, then it might be.

But QP usually doesn’t take MMR seriously so when there are only 2 tanks, 4 dps and 4 supps who checked the map in their allowed map list, then you could play it. Otherwise, it’s a map problem imo.

no im sick of the endless escort and hybrid

you animals and your chokes, makes me sick :sweat_droplets: (thats me spitting at you)
