Edit: Might have come across too strongly, the point I wanted to make is that map voting is a great way to make the majority happy, which serves the game very well in its current iteration. There is even a chance less voted maps win which makes it fair for everyone.
There are a couple of copers in General Discussion who seem to think this system is unfair because their favorite map keep being skipped, but that’s a good thing;
The majority typically does not wish to play on maps which are claustrophobic and hazardous to all but a handful of Heroes, or on Modes like Flashpoint which is just a walking and/or brawling simulator.
“There is no more map diversity” - which would be a FAIR point only if those players had hero diversity as well instead of playing only Doomfist or Wrecking ball lol

As long as I can avoid playing Antarctic, Shambali, and Ilios, I’m happy!

Illios is so popular though. I can’t seem to avoid

It’s a great feature. I haven’t played much qp. But it’s something that should have been implemented awhile ago. So it’s good to finally see it in the game.
I know myself, I’ve gone from playing Busan, FP, and Clash every other map to actually playing the maps I like now.

A great way to ONLY make the majority happy…whatever that is
51% majority would mean you now have 49% of player base unhappy
Or maybe its more likely 66% majority….congrats 1/3rd of your players are now unhappy….soooo much better /s
it’s not like there aren’t other ways to go about it

Ah, those 49% all captured in that one guy who doesn’t vote King’s Row. Maybe they all only play one match a month
Anyway @thread, map voting kinda mid. Don’t care much for it, at least make the screen go away faster by removing animations or whatever.

I mean if I were to critique the actual map vote system we do have, I would say it def doesn’t need all the animation…and that it should be a blind vote (can still show how many votes after selection)
But the biggest issue is that it exists in first place
I despise the map. There is so much I would do to improve it.

The majority can clean my dragonblade, cuh. That being said, I happen to agree with the majority on map preferences. I still don’t like them. I never will. Greedy little tikes.
But… it is better. A third might be upset, but now up to two-thirds of players are happier.
Oh man, that’s right. Glad I haven’t been stuck in Antarctica since it came.

Not really cause it’s not like they weren’t getting their maps before….whereas now it’s hard to get almost anything that isn’t an escort type map
They’ve severely tilted the scales in terms of of appeasing one particular portion of community (at the expense of the other)
It is like that because that majority were saddled with maps they didn’t want to play on before. Now they get to play more of what they like, to a degree (what with three maps in a list and the roulette system screwing over the eleven people who wanted to go to King’s Row in favour of the one guy who voted Hanaoka). They’ve benefitted from the change.
So the majority is happier due to playing more of what they want to, while the minority is unhappier.

And I would say that any system that does that is not a good system
It’s not like this is the only way to address the map issue (if one even existed)

I do think that the system we currently have is the best system we possibly could have, in terms of making unpopular maps less common for while still leaving the door open for people with less common preferences–or people who just want variety–to get what they want on ocassion.
Personally, though, I would still prefer if map voting was deleted entirely. I just don’t care enough about maps to feel like map vote are a good use of my playtime.
illios is goated wtf you on about
And as always, any change made to the game, even if its mostly good due to adding options or more agency, will always have its detractors.
Pretty sure there are at least 12-15 things that should be looked at, before possible iterations or modifications of map voting. Like for example the transparency in regards to stacks (who is in the same party as who).

What are these people unhappy about?
