Yea i feel like every map that gets at least one vote has equal probability of getting selected. Doesnt matter if the votes go 2-1-7…this scenario just happens way too often
It’s possible in the short term, but in the long term, I think you’d find that maps that typically get more votes typically win more over all.
It’s just that getting stuck with a map that only had one vote stings more, so it’s easier to recall and think “why does this happen so much?”
Ive logged every single match I’ve had since map voting….yeah no….thats not the case
This is objectively not true though. Like there is a chance of any map that gets at least 1 vote of getting selected, but the probability is not equal.
If you have 9 people vote for map A and 1 vote for map B, map B could win but the probability of that happening is only 10% and the probability of map A being selected is 90% in this example.
The brain does a really good job at remembering things that stand out more than things that are expected. You are almost certainly seeing an expected normal distribution but just remembering all the times where the 1 vote won. That or you have a very low sample size and may have just gotten unlucky.
Over time if you charted all the wins you will find the expected distribution.
Want to lose games due to throwers? Vote for control.
I disagree after having to play back-to-back four-round games on King’s Row yesterday because people don’t know any other maps.
I’ve kept track!
Popular Map Won = 53
only 1 vote = 8
Not Popular Map Won = 25
Backfill = 1
Tie = 4
looks pretty even to me
but I’ve only seen it 100 times or so
(the choice of 3rd map is definitely not random though, that new trashpoint map is there at least 50% of the time)
I logged 75 games, vote counts for each map and the map selected. The chance of a map with 1 vote being selected was about 1 in 8 In 5v5 you might expect 1 in 10, but because not everybody votes in every game, 1 in 8 works out about right.
I also felt like the 1-vote maps were getting picked way too often, but in reality they’re not.
It started with a 50% weighting (I saw it in 48% of my games). Not sure if that’s still the case or not (I think it is). If it is then hopefully they’ll remove the weighting in the patch now they know nobody wants to play the map.
…that happens 10% of the time. I agree that is too often (it should be that kid waits in queue for 90 minutes if he wants to play that stupid bad map), but, that’s 10% nonetheless
According to what they tell us, yes.
No one here can speak with full authority on this, maybe not even most of the devs themselves.
The devs have said exactly how it works. We can only choose to believe them or not. But what they said happens seems to match my experience.
