Map votes are in. But is Blizz going to listen?

Let’s be honest. The new map voting system has made one thing very clear. The community does not like Flashpoint or Clash. These maps show up and get ignored. In most matches, they get zero votes. Not a few, not just the occasional skip. Zero. People don’t want to play them.

Push is different. It’s not everyone’s favorite, but it’s at least somewhat accepted. You still see people vote for it, and some of the maps are okay. But Flashpoint and Clash are just a mess. Flashpoint maps are way too large, and the pacing is awful. There’s way too much walking, and the fights feel scattered and meaningless. Clash is just an overextended Control mode that feels like a chore. Every fight turns into a drawn-out brawl, and no one enjoys it.

The thing is, this isn’t just complaining. The map voting data proves it. When given a choice, people overwhelmingly pick classic maps like King’s Row, Eichenwalde, Route 66, Dorado, and Lijiang Tower. These maps are fast, tight, and fun to play. People actually enjoy them. The new ones are just not hitting the mark.

Blizzard needs to pay attention to this. If almost no one is voting for these maps, they shouldn’t still be in regular rotation. This isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about quality. Players aren’t asking for the past. We’re asking for good map design, and right now the new modes are failing that test.

Flashpoint and Clash are dragging the experience down. Most people don’t even want to queue if they know there’s a chance those maps will pop up. If the goal of map voting was to give players a voice, then listen. The community has spoken. We don’t want these maps. We want them gone.

Realistically, I know Eichenwalde was the first new main map they added to overwatch, but hearing it called a classic gave me whiplash lmao

That being said, I am very curious to know what they’re going to do with this information. I’ve seen escort and hybrid getting picked over every other type, with control and push in third and fourth respectively. Whenever clash or flashpoint show up, they’re getting totally shut out. Even the new flashpoint map is already only getting 1 or 2 votes per lobby and it’s barely weeks old.

If map voting survives, it could take like a year to see any results from the initial release since it takes forever to identify what needs to be fixed, come up with solutions, and actually implement those solutions. Flashpoint was initially released in August 2023, so it took them almost two years to even add a new map to the mode and then iterate on the pre-existing maps to maybe make them more tolerable to play on.

We’ll see, but for now, it’s pretty damning what the map skew is telling us.

I am also curious if people will begin to get tired of the constant pick of these popular maps, and eventually start widening the votes to less (currently) favored maps over time.

Yeah, I have already experienced that personally. I was also picking payload maps but I am cursed to always get defense and I played Route 66 like 4 times in 6 matches. I ended up selecting Colosseo and Lijiang Tower over it later. Map fatigue will definitely set in and people will complain until the voting gets changed or people will pick varying maps on their own.

They also overwhelmingly pick escort payload maps over even control maps…while I don’t doubt that people don’t like clash (I’m tracking all my map votes so far - and yeah it’s bad) a lot of what we see is also just people default to payload maps

flashpoint was hated since launch two years ago, two years later they havent fixed the mode and only did very minor reworks to the only two maps the mode have that change nothing about the mode itself and the first new map relased that as far i have read on this forum sucks, i mean is flashpoint of course sucks, so, you think blizzard will do anything or can do anything about actually fixing and reworking the maps people hate so much and never vote for?

I do select the maps people don’t pick. I’m sick of playing the same maps with this voting system. I also get stuck defending more than I would like to. I’m very much over it. The only mode I’ve never enjoyed is clash, that can be permanently removed. Flashpoint still needs adjustments, otherwise it’s just and extended control game mode.

No, because the community is being ridiculous. There’s nothing to listen to, and it’s wrong to deprive good players of good maps and modes just because the basic mob can’t be bothered to think or play outside their comfort zone. I’m not at all surprised that most players are dull, but they shouldn’t have been given the means to force it upon the rest of us.

As part of the community, you are incorrect. Sounds like you need to start your own boring payload-only custom game. Remove map voting from competitive so real players can play the real game.

If devs and the rest of the team really play OW on daily basis as they claim, they already should have known this. This mode has most leavers for months (including me).
Seing that map in videos of streamers or random players - they are always unhappy, when it loads.
I mean at this point, they have to know that players hate the mode as it is and yet they added a new map to it. This shows, that they are not gonna listen.

Remember when Smash Bros was No Items Fox Only Final Destination? That’s the OW community with only wanting one game mode. Eliminate 2CP and Clash? Now they want rid of Flashpoint. It falls. Next up is Push to be shoved off. May as well kill off Control to after that.

And then? They’ll want to start killing off the “unplayable, horrible” maps of the only mode left till all we got is King’s Row.

If they do anything with it, then it’s clear that they don’t pay any attention to the forums, because a simple ChatGPT read of it will tell the devs that most players don’t like Flashpoint or Clash. They didn’t need hero bans to know everyone hates Sombra and Sojourn and Freja. There’s so much feedback here on the forums that gets ignored. We still have no idea what direction the devs want to take this game.

The forums should mostly be ignored. It’s a echo pot of complaining cause happy people don’t typically go on the forums to praise. They just play. And if they do try to say they like something, they’ll get jumped by the 50 angry people on here wanting to spread negativity all day long.

Based on how they handled the hero ban information, Blizzard will completely misconstrue the message the community is sending.

“People aren’t picking Clash? Maybe it’s being mixed with too many popular maps. Let’s release a third Clash map so we can do Clash only choices!” :man_facepalming:

and praise be the hero who sacrifices oneself for the game while leaving the 3 clash options so the match ends

I agree clash doesn’t belong in the game in its current state. If it’s not fair enough for comp, it shouldn’t be in qp imo.

As far as flashpoint, we are having map reworks and changing how points are selected in mid season. A huge gripe is the walking when a point is selected across the map, and it’s a 150m walk. That should be gone come mid season, so the mode to me, seems like it should be much improved and willing to give it more of a shot. As for now, being selected less often is fine.

Considering they removed clash from comp, they are well aware of its issues. Seems they haven’t come up with a solution they are happy with yet.

If they were truly good, they would be getting more votes.

Let’s take a second to think of times in history when something that won the most votes wasn’t actually the best thing.

There is also a big difference between getting the most votes, and getting 0-1 votes. It’s pretty clear atm that majority of people do not vote for clash or flashpoint. Mid season might fix some of flashpoints issues and make it more appealing. Clash being removed from comp for being so bad, well it’s no surprise people dont want to play it.

It’s not a skill issue, it’s not people not wanting to learn/adapt, people just would rather play on maps that are more fun for them. And if majority votes for maps they find more fun, well seems we play more payload and less clash/flashpoint.
