Unless a way to choose what maps you queue for is added soon, I think a lot of people are going to stop playing.
Personally, I am so sick and tired of getting hyped up to play comp OW only to get HLC followed by Rialto, two maps I can’t stand and that most of the community can’t stand, either. I end up playing two games, and not playing anymore because the matches are so infuriating.
Blizzard has said in the past that they don’t want to implement this sort of thing because it would essentially delete maps from the pool, but I don’t care what Blizzard wants me to play. 2CP isn’t fun for a reason. If you want people to play it, then make it balanced. Don’t force the playerbase to essentially gamble playing a gamemode they want to play every time they queue.
There’s a lot of systems that could fix this issue. Rocket league has a like/dislike system that decreases your chances of getting certain stadiums (despite the stadiums being mechanically identical in competitive). CS:GO uses an opt-in style, where you choose which maps you want to play before you start searching. Many games use a vote/veto system at the beginning of the match.
This is a major quality of life improvement that the game has gone far too long without.
If they do that the queue times would be wayyy longer for people who like, say HLC, but it would probably take like 30 seconds for people who want to play King’s Row.
Plus they don’t care if we suffer. D:
Pretty sure it would be too problematic for the queue system to ever be implemented, even if they only allowed people to ban one map for themselves, that would still be a heavy increase to matchmaker stipulations. At best, perhaps they could allow a group vote between two maps at the start of a match or something.
Gotta say though, while I get Rialto, I’m surprised you still dislike HLC so much, the rework improved it a ton.
It would be a good addition to qp, but not for ranked … in ranked you can’t pick maps or gamemodes you are good at, you have to be good in every situation.
agreed, the only reason they fear this is that some of their maps are just gawd-awful and no one wants plays them. implementing a selection tool would put further data into a clear sign that the dev team has no real clue how to make a good map that doesnt rely on a choke point.
which is why, in my belief, that they wont release a map making tool for users. that would speak volumes if most of the user created maps were better than anything the dev team created.
also, as much as i would love for this to happen, it wont. HOWEVER, having a proper map rotation would be a great benefit. I like most of the maps, but i really despise having to play the same 5 maps over and over all day long.
maybe … but considering there are fewer maps compared to heros and more hero releases per year compared to maps … im not holding my breath on this to materialize. …
What happens if a hero is good on maps that many people don’t like? Should they get buffed to be good on other maps, potentially becoming OP on certain maps.
In competitive it’s a bit more tricky, because people can use any of the mentioned systems to skew the majority of their games to modes that they are better at / their mains are better at, which can easily create an unfair playing ground.
However, for QP, I see no reason not to throw in a map preference / vote option so people can get more games on the maps they enjoy. If certain maps end up being a ghost town in QP, then that’s something Blizzard needs to address, not that the community should have to deal with.
I don’t see what the problem would be at all, to be able to choose any map in arcade or QP, if you just like playing on a few maps in particular. I’m super sad I can no longer constantly play on Busan endlessly…
I get why you can’t in comp, but why no QP or arcade?!
If there was a map voting system at the start of the game it would avoid the issue of long queue times for certain maps bc all queues would be the same, the 12 players would just vote on like a 3-map bucket
The map voting systems in other games works great, don’t know what you’re talking about. Except in RL, since it 1. doesn’t matter and 2. seems to ignore my preferences anyway.
