I remember the topic of map lighting coming up a lot when OW2 was first released, particularly where those sunset maps are concerned (ie, Kings Row).
Personally, I swear the sunset maps are harder to see on than the other maps. Everything is very shadowy, and characters blend into the environment in a way they shouldn’t. But what do you all think?
I remember seeing some video from the devs talking about dynamic lighting and showing a map - I think it was Suck-it Royale - with moving shadows. But they seem to have gone back on that and everything, including shadows, is baked into the maps. This is why it takes them a long time to release each map covering each time of day.
I guess to be playable on the Switch they had to make compromises.
I also saw a video about dynamic weather with a storm on Temple of Annubis. I guess that may have been for the PvE though and they scrapped it.
They really went overboard with bloom and fog- my theory is it was meant to look “pretty” for shareholders who don’t know better, either regarding how it actually feels to play on these maps or that BLOOM is really ugly when it’s overdone as it often is in OW2.
Less gameplay relevent, but god the victory pose shot on Busan is just hideous with how washed-out it is by the volumetric lighting.
having to do it just for those maps is just silly. I prefer if they put effort into making them look properly. It is no different than having an orange glass plastered over the screen. That is how it looks like now.
