Map Designs You'd Like to See in OW2

May as well start crazy…

  • Omnic enclave robotic jungle setting, ideally with a lot of environmental stuff going on and some good sneak-pathing opportunities.

  • Redesigned Great Wall-esque Assault map, starting from one external barracks, passing through a few gatehouses and ending at a some second notable point along the wall. Scaffolding and nearby hill terrain provides additional width, but the central path is key.

A vertical map, maybe ascending up a building or something (Lijiang Tower?). Probably only for PVE though.

With the jungle idea I had really wanted a winding mountain trail or even some manner of giant ziggurat. I really like what a long slope can do for defender advantage, especially if there are a few areas to break it up.

Even for PvP, seems doable for like a… 4CP, so to speak?

When I heard about a map in a Skyscraper (Lijiang Tower) my mind raced with possibly. Cool, a map that’s vertically designed where Defense is on the top floors and Offense on the Bottom with map borders spanning the length of the building!

My imagination is too ambitious.

Better than mine — all over the place.

It’s now swapped to imagining only a final bomb-drop at the top, but with capture points that merely control advantages, such as security rooms, the power/server room, or the elevator, rather than those being obligatory capture areas.

Honestly, I would like that.

  • The Null Sector capital ship as a deathmatch map.
  • The Gwishin underwater base filled with lower gravity passageways and the Pacific Rim robot at the end.
  • A vertical map at Vishkar HQ filled with shields that the player can activate/deactivate and lasers.
  • A pirate Omnic ship. You heard me right I want my share of robot pirates in this game!
  • The government facility where Talon “rescued” Sigma.
  • Blizzard HQ and before you tell me it’s not gonna happen I want you to look at Blizzard World.
  • The ruins of the Overwatch base in Switzerland.
  • Ilios, Petras, and Ayutthaya, BUT WITH LORE.
  • An underground map, such as a mine or tunnel system with collapsible walls and floors.
  • A “small” map that is actually regular size because every Overwatch character is tiny, such as a child’s room or a board game.
  • The inside of the sea fort on Havana. It’s just wasted potential at this point.
  • An over the top evil lair for one of the villians, like a volcano, surrounded by lava sharks, in space.

A cyber-punk neon city at night Payload map.
Imagine a long winding map with bright neon lights everywhere, with dance clubs. A cyber futuristic city.

Anything from this image that’s not in the game already.
Specifically desiring Galapagos and “The Iris”.

San Joaquin looks so cool, if it could be pulled off that would be an amazing map

Also Galapagos, and Amazon

India, Galapogos, The Iris, and Iron Star
Why arent these in the game :sob:
Instead we get Havana which is so visually boring.

I think that iron star became Volskaya? I might be wrong though.

India and The Iris looks so cool oh my god

Yeah it did. You can see the full concept art here:

It was so radically changed, I wouldn’t mind the “Iron Star” concept returning.

Yeah, maybe they could revisit it on another map that’s set in the inner workings of Volskaya Industries or something, that’d be awesome.

I want more Eco-point maps, like Antarctica but for the actual game modes. Not just duels or 3v3’s.

^ This exactly.

I’ve been asking for vertical maps for years. Global Agenda (closer to OW than TF2) had some incredibly creative map designs (a lot of their team went on to make tribes and paladins). And GA had game modes with more than 1 objective active at a time - so you forced asymmetrical presence allocation. Settings like deep mineshafts, a waterfall, a spacestation, and airship, etc. All with verticality in mind and either jumpads or lifts to keep things accessible.

I could see jungle working like the Ayuthaya, with only a few areas riddled with vegetation. Maybe a lab or something with windows that show the jungle background.

But vegetation-heavy maps are notoriously hard to optimize. So much geometry to make them look good, otherwise they look like crap. OW and hopefully OW2 will be refined enough to run on weaker hardware. Stormy Havana had good environmentals but still bogged down some hw. A challenge to pull off for sure. Esports need max fps min load so you rarely see that theme when performance for the masses is king.

I would really like them to make the India concept art of India, it looks so nice! Possibly turn it into a payload or hybrid map, would love to see more! As well as the Galapogos and Berlin! Please make Berlin a map!
