It will always depend. Hero pools can change this a lot. Zenyatta is probably my best hero, so I rarely have to complain about any dps other than how garbage they are and how they have the audacity to complain about my pick when they can barely top my damage. And the only reason they even have more damage than the enemy dps is because of my discord. Ha ha ha… Totally did not happen to me today, nope.
But imagine I play Mercy or Ana. How the hell am I supposed to compensate for that dead weight? Genuinely impossible.
Some dps can support such as Sombra or Mei. Again, it all depends on hero pools or what situation. A Symmetra creating a nest on Lighthouse or a Torb placing a defensive turret to prevent Tracer dives is supporting their team way more than most of your average support players. At least in those specific situations.
Easier, harder… What does it matter? Does it get done? That is what is important.
