I got to thinking about my old idea which i tossed around a little on there and finally got some feedback on (positive btw) so I’m making it it’s own topic.
At the moment, at least for me soldier feels pretty weak, and i think sprint is a poor “ability” i mean it’s the future and he’s batman with a gun, surely there has to be something other then “i run fast” that sets him apart from other heros.
This pistol sidearm in all of his skins is killing me. No emote, no victory poses, and no ANYTHING with it except an accessory like a purse or fanny pack.
I want to remove sprint and add his pistol as a sidearm. Before i go into the how let’s cover the why
- First of all people call him the FPS/CoD character, and just about every FPS game teaches you “swapping to your sidearm is always faster then reloading.” I dont know how many times I was trying to kill someone with soldier and they ran off with like 10hp and im stuck reloading with no helix going “really wish i could use this pistol”
- I own a to scale replica of the pulse rifle thats made of wood. SOB is heavy as hell and not fun to cosplay with still gotta find a drill a attached some starp on that. Anyways I dont see how he could sprint constantly with this thing. Biotic legs whatever (really dumb superpower) Super Soldier Program (yeah prove it his aim sucks without visor and he cant take a hit to save his life literally without a drug grenade)
So here’s the plan:
- Remove sprint from “Pulse Rifle” and make his Pistol a fast swap secondary weapon
- Make it so he moves as fast as sprint in any direction automatically with his pistol drawn (that pulse rifle is HEAVY)
- The pistol is very weak low magazine: 5 damage per hit and 12-15 on a crit but you can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. has 9-12 bullets, with a quicker reload then pulse rifle.
- Helix rocket could not be used while he has his pistol drawn.
- Using the pistol with his ultimate targets the head instead of the body like how his pulse rifle does. tactical visor does not increase reload speed of the pistol only the pulse rifle.
- Biotic grenade cools down 1.5-2x as fast while the pistol is drawn (idea i came up with while tying this to the before mentioned topic
How i think this will effect his gameplay.
- The will help him secure kills on characters that managed to dodge some RNG with his pulse rifle.
- He wouldnt have any issue losing his mobility since he could draw the pistol and run from spawn and swap back to pulse as he’s about to enter the fight.
- it could help him avoid more damage since his sprint will work left and right as well instead of just foreward.
- the biotic grenade cooldown is horrible but rather then buff it , it makes it so if him or his allies need more healing he can use his pistol to provide healing at the expense of his pulse rifle damage.
- Tying it with the ultimate and having a fast trigger finger could be very useful on people like tracer and genji but not effective on high hp targets, he would have to choose what weapon is best for the target he’s aiming at.
- as mentioned before this lead me to him having a free slot for a new ability.
New ability ideas
Ok so, he’s basically batman with a gun and less morals, but with out all the cool gear pretty much. At first i thought flashbang but thats mccrees thing, then i thought proximity mine, but thats junkrats thing. So i’m kinda at a loss for this section and yours are greatly appreciated and if it works good i’ll add it to this post. That said here’s an idea.

Give him an “anti-reaper” weapon of some sort for lore, that could act like a stun or slow in the game. I was thinking along the lines of a “tazer-knife” that he could stab/slash at someone and cause a small stun/slow. This would be helpful on both weapons since with the pulse rifle if someone with a small hitbox ran close to him trying to throw off his aim he could stab/slash them and back up a bit to get better shots, and for his pistol he could chase someone down and hit them and swap back to pulse rifle and force a fight or run away himself.

I dont know there has to be some sort of unused bat-man style gizmo he that fits soldier in a highly advance future where raising the dead is a real thing. This spot is reserved for “your” idea.
I know alot of people are happy with soldier and other arnt but i just really want him to do something with this Pistol he’s been carrying around for 2 years, even if its just to flick peanuts into his mouth as an emote!
