Making Bastion viable

The reason why bastion is so trashy is because he has absolutely no mobility. Adding to that, there is only so many corners and camping spot he could use. Just one game against him and u know all his tricks.

In order to make him viable we need to increase his CAMPING POTENTIAL & MOBILITY.

Therefore he needs a few new passives

  • wallclimb. Bastion can now scale walls allowing him far more camping opportunities & options.

  • double jump in turret mode. No longer will he be a sitting duck. He can now jump or double jumping while in turret. This makes him unpredictable.

These will help retain his playstyle and nature but making him viable

It’s an interesting idea, but this changes him in a direction that goes away from his playstyle.

Defense heros are supposed to lack mobility in exchange for area control (Hanzo and Widow being exceptions but they’re borderline Atk/Def).

A better change would either slightly buffing his Ironclad or decreasing his Sentry>Recon change. He’s still a good hero; he just needs some polish, is all.

imagining a turret jumping repeatedly, hilarious. Good one OP, I needed a laugh today. :+1:t2:

Personally, why not make his self repair become a pseudo defense matrix while in turret form? Forces him to go recon to self heal, but makes him harder to “uproot” without making him op.

This is pretty good but I think this added with their self-heal would be a little overpowered. Let’s replace that with a personal barrier they can bring up, and anything that hits will shoot that enemy fire back where they’re aiming.

If we can somehow squeeze another mobility skill in their, too… Like something that makes them zoom forward… And while we’re at it, I always hated that Bastion was 100% omnic. What if they were half human instead? We’re onto something here.

JUSt revert his sentry to launch state and he is fine. We just wanted faster transformation. Nothing else but we got a rework that was not successful…

I like the wall climb ability. But I think it should be a slow process that grounds him on a wall, not being pulled or knocked down by an CC effects (other than Hog Hook)

This would mean he has a larger potential in terms of positioning, providing some unique defenses, and camping spots.

Perhaps if he hasn’t grounded himself in turret mode, he can be knocked down by simply taking damage?

Otherwise I think the double jump idea could be a bit weird for Bastion…

Well played. I’d suggest adding an Attack Helicopter configuration as well.

Have you tried paring with Orisa and staying behind her shield? I’ve found it a pretty useful way to protect bastion while helping him be a bit more mobile, so he doesn’t just have to camp somewhere without any protection.

I have honestly thought to myself that his ultimate should have simply put him into an attack-copter mode where he is in sentry form but flies with the aide of a helicopter rotor.

Could be a little OP… BUT AT LEAST IT WOULD BE FUN!!!

Let him skid while going into sentry mode.

Bastion does have vertical mobility when using Tank mode. Rocket jump to high ledges and mow down your enemies unxpectedly from above!

Nonsense!!

Bastion is pretty good as he is now.
Only a few who can counter him.

Bastion is quite viable. He fits his role as an area denier. Put him behind a shield, damage boost him, and discord his targets.

Every buff thread has to include wall climb now right? First it was resource bars now it’s a wall climb.

In all seriousness, Bastion does need some changes.

The Pirate Ship should not be the only trick in a Bastion player’s bag. He should not depend on his teammates picking shield tanks and a payload that moves him around in order to get any kind of value.

The problem with simply buffing him is that it would make these strategies even more oppressive than they already are. He needs buffs that encourage him to move around and not be entirely dependent on his team to carry him.

I’d love to see him get the Mercy treatment; move Tank Mode to his E ability, nerfing its damage slightly and giving it a limited duration, and give him a new ult. They said that they tried many different ults for Bastion, right? There must be tons of ideas floating around for him.

I’d say tightening his spread and upping his ammo count in recon mode would help, maybe making him immune to crit shots as well as tightening his hitbox in that mode too. He could also stand to have a tighter spread on his turret mode I suppose.

Buffing his ironclad while in turret mode to better than it’s paltry amount now would help, and granting him a full heal on ult change like Torb and Winston would also help him out.

Reduce the damage in Sentry form to 10 (from 15) and the base damage to 3 (from 4). Then, reduce the spread slightly. Damage resistance should apply to all stances.

Now he liquefies people at further ranges, at a slower pace, but has a greater deal of independence and resilience.

And why not? I thought this supose to be a team play game?

This would not only give him more options in approach, but in mobility as well. His ult could be unlimited ammo, double ironclad, and/or 1.5x firerate for a short duration, allowing you to choose either turret or tank for more choice. (Name suggestion: ‘Overdrive’)

Ok, this idea is sounding really exciting!

P.S.) This could also make his new highlight animation make more sense.
