Make workshop editor better

Hello! I’m really sorry for my bad English, but I hope you forgive me.
All right, it could be nice if this thread saw people who created the workshop, so they can bring these features in it.

First what I really would like to see in the workshop editor is the better way to move rules. At this time we have to click on a small arrow buttons to bring a rule on top or bottom. For me it’s a nightmare. So, what I want to offer. I think it’s better to use drag’n’drop system: you grab a rule and move it to another place with your mouse. Like in this image (sorry no images inserted because of strange blizzard forum politic):

Maybe add some select tool to move a couple of rules at the same time. I think it’s gonna make life much easier.

The second one is the folders. We already can expand and collapse rules but it’s not enough. If we get folders, ‘code’ is gonna look so many times better then it is now. It’s ok, if you have like 5 or 10 rules, but if it’s gets more then 30… Not that comfortable. Maybe something like this:

So and the last one is the color system. I think it’s terrible if all of your code in just one color. Hard to quick pick a right piece. Unfortunately, same thing we can see in the workshop editor. Sometimes I have so many actions that I can’t quickly find the right one to fix/move/delete/copy. It could be so useful if we can colorize some of them. Like this:

It’s not necessary to build in a professional photoshop color picker, no. A simple pallet of 10-12 colors would be enough I guess.

Well, it’s all that I want to say and offer to you. What do you think about it? Is it good ideas or maybe they are useless, maybe you can’t even understand what I’m talking about because of my engrish? Let me know. Thank you for your time!

P. S. also a vector copy button would be so cool.

We can understand you.

I like these ideas. I just talked about drag and drop in another thread, and I have also been wishing for folders or “collections” to keep everything organized. I did not think of colors, but that would also be very helpful.

+1

Also would be nice to have a “workshop sandbox” mode+maps that has objectives open from the beginning (objectives activated without wait time, no spawn room locks) and gives players tool to show vector coordinates of where they are at, where the point they are looking at is at and the distance between them.

You can do this by setting Match Time to 0 during both the assembling heroes phase and setup phase.

Oh cool. Something to dump into my “Blank” preset for workshop stuff.

I think the colorizing one would just be more confusing than anything else, unless the coloring is automatic based on control flow or something. Visualizing control flow is the only thing I could imagine myself using it for, but once I get used to using the colors as a guide, it’ll cause problems if I forget to change the color of an action, making it so I don’t see errors I otherwise might. And if I have to second-guess the coloring all the time, what’s the point?

The other suggestions though, for sure. And might I say, what you lack in English you more than make up for in image editing skills. (Not that you were at all difficult to understand.) Do you do UI mockups professionally or something? Because those images are really well-made.

Well, probably you’re right. But maybe there’s another way to visually separate actions, idk. For example, to number an actions.
Oh! What if we could add a description to them, not just a short comment in the rule’s title. RMB to create description, then hover that action for 1-1.5 sec and description pops up.

Dunno, I think it’s need to exist some sort of highlighting.

Also thanks you. I’m not doing any mockups or smth like that, just these are easy to make. That’s it.
