The new change to Bob’s target priority is excellent when you want to eliminate a single target. But sometimes, you want Bob pressuring the enemy tank while you shoot the squishies.
My suggestion is that, after calling Bob, you could press Q to swap between the previous target priority model and the new one.
Or maybe keep the new target priority by default. Then, make it so Ashe can select Bob’s target by pointing and pressing Q — kinda like Ana’s Nano Boost — though I can see how this could be too much control compared to the other suggestion above.
You can literally change his target priority, they made this change. If you shoot somebody, and hit them, Bob immediately swaps to shoot them if he has line of sight. You’re asking for something you have.
The alternate is a bad idea. A: It would be far too easy to aim Bob, the way it is now you at least have to land a shot. B: There is no situation I can think of that you want Bob to be shooting at a tank while you’re shooting the squishies. The most effective use of him is what you have now, you and Bob kill a squishy in record time then move on to the next. Shooting the tank is the lowest possible value.
I do it quite often. Put Bob on point/payload - he contests and now tanks have to position their shields against him, while I can easily go to unprotected squishes from the side. Maybe not a best tactic, but makes sense to me.
The change isn’t to press q to change target but is to press q to go back to bobs old targeting system for example you use bob and shoot a pharah bob then starts targeting the phara then you get dove by a genji as it stands now once you shoot the genji bob will target him leaving the pharah alone the suggested change would have it so pressing q would reset bob to his previous target (the pharah):
Say you throw Bob, and he can see their tank, a Rein, one support, a Mercy, and one dps, a Cassidy. Bob may or may not be contesting the point here, it makes no difference to who he should shoot. If you have him shoot the Rein he is shooting the 650 hp hero with armour who can shield it if he likes or simply ignore it; Bob doesn’t have the damage to really threaten him, he can eventually chew through that hp but it takes ages. He’s always your last priority target. Cassidy you could target, he isn’t a bad choice but he could be healed to make it take longer, during which time he can get out of sight, or he can be rezzed. Mercy can’t heal herself nearly as well and taking her out of the fight as fast as possible will always be the best play in most situations, definitely in this one. Once she’s dead, Bob will shoot the Cassidy or the tank anyway. Hell, he could kill the Mercy and the Cassidy before he could kill the Rein even if the Rein did not bring up his shield.
By having Bob shoot a target that is harder for him to kill and arguably less value to boot than taking out the supports and dps one by one is always going to be a bad idea, in fact the change they have made is meant to prevent Bob from wasting all his time on targets like this, letting you use him to remove softer targets from the fight altogether.
