[Main Thread] High Ping Australia - Oct 11th

Nevermind - still getting Asian servers. This is insane.

Can you try connecting to a VPN hub across the country from your location? Something as far from Singapore as possible.

Im also having same problem. Im from Auckland New Zealand and about 50% of my games are 30ms and 50% are 160ms. My friends also have this problem and many other people who I talk to in games have this problem.

Same issues in Sydney playing on PlayStation 5, the 5-6 people I play with have same problems. Never had this issue once on OW1 in 6 years but getting put into 150ms SEA servers maybe 60% of the time every day since launch of OW2.

Had no issues during OW2 beta. Seems like not enough Australian servers to handle capacity of full release.

For anyone still experiencing connection issues/wrong server:

Please grab WinMTR and run a test to 37.244.42.122 for about 5–10 minutes.

  • Click copy to clipboard at the end and post it here in a reply.

Hi Nicole,

Posting WinMTR Request, it rand for 10-15 min. Had to add 3 at the end of each net to not register as a link. Not sure if this should be sent in a public forum.

Have you tried moving closer to Sydney?

Been having the same issue over the past week. I have noticed that when we do get Sydney servers it’s always syd2. If I remember correctly with OW1, comp was always on syd1, or at least syd1 existed.

Hi Nicole, pasted WinMTR below. Had to edit hostnames as it won’t allow links to be posted on the forums (added 3 after .net) and hid gateway :

In a game with high latency, with 3 players via 3 different isp’s with 3 different routes all originating in Sydney and still high ping.

Smells more like server availability and lack of resources in AUS.

Though, AS57976(Blizzard) has been known to break things for no reason and take over a week to rectify.

Perhaps adding a Sydney zone to your troubleshooting tool will help as its impossible to tell what is actually happening when there is no return path to diagnose, which is usually the problem when it comes to Blizzard.

Yep, I’m getting the same and it’s exremely frustrating.

Fix it blizzard. How ard is it?

Read what obsir said. Love of god.

Or can we get someone other than some glorified community manager to look at this thread perhaps? It’s borderline hilarious and perfectly on par that someone with so little technical knowledge is the ‘mvp tech support’. Do they give out MVP the same way overwatch decides who gets POTG and shows someone hitting one shot and missing 30?

My god at suggesting australians VPN to australia to fix the routing… outstanding display of technical prowess right there…

Hi Nicole-1893,

This is my WinMTR test results, ran for a bit over 10 minutes. I do believe this issue is affecting ALL Overwatch 2 players from Australia and New Zealand after asking around friend groups if they’re encountering this same issue.

I also have issues with matchmaking placing my friend and I being placed into SEA servers over Sydney. 120+ms latency especially in competitive gamemodes is a joke.

I hope this issue is resolved promtly as this game is borderline unplayable for us in Australia and NZ.

Cheers,
- Pancake

i would love some help understanding how i can fix my ping/servers in my game. Being sent from 30ping to 110ping constantly is so irritating. I would love some help understanding these stats and how i can fix my routes.

Thanks,
Crime

Hello Crime,

The issue does not appear to be with routing but rather Blizzard placing you in South East Asian servers. This is happening to a lot of us and unfortunately there does not seem to be a fix we can do ourselves so have to wait for Blizzard to fix the Matchmaking in OW2.

One thing I do notice though is your latency to your modem is fairly unstable, perhaps you’re using Wi-Fi? While this most likely is not the problem you’re facing with being placed into the wrong servers for your region; it may create issues with periodic latency spikes.

An Ethernet cable is highly recommended.

How is this possibly not a routing issue when us perth players are getting higher ping than eastern state’s players when we’re half the geographical distance to singapore compared to them??? I have ethernet and a stable connection and im still getting 160 ping vs 60 on sydney, in every other game the singapore and sydney servers would have a ping difference of at most 20, if that. In valorant for example i get 45 on sydney and 50 on singapore. It may not be a routing issue for u guys in the eastern states as 100ish ping sounds about right but it definitley is a routing issue for WA players.

It is not a routing issue as you quite literally just did a WinMTR test to prove that it’s not. There are many many different reasons and contributors to latency, so I cannot exactly say. While yes you are closer geographically, internet traffic does not always take the fastest route geographically and this can be seen here: imgur(DOT)com/hODrBQf

I’m not quite sure where you got those latencies from or the ping-times showed to you in-game are incorrect. Below are some tools you can use to test latencies to different cities around the world, including Singapore. I have also attatched a screenshot above from WonderNetwork’s own city to city latency test which you at home quite literally cannot get lower than as these tests are carried out at major internet exchanges in cities.

I highly reccommend this tool for testing latency to different cities and let us know what the results are. These results will be lower than in-game Return-Trip-Times (RTT) latencies as these are ICMP ping tests and send very very very little information between them so this is basically a best-case scenario. www.meter(DOT)net/tools/world-ping-test/

I cannot post links on this forum so forgive me that you have to replace the (DOT) in these links to use them.
