The only queue there needs to be is main tank. Get a main tank on each team, let them have crazy fast queues, and the rest should sort itself out. Maybe block off the DPS category after 4 have chosen it so there’s always at least one healer too.
They have done some internal testing and they came to the conclusion many play be saying that being the only tank or only healer isn’t fun and is more stressful.
Yes, but it doesn’t mean there will be 4 DPS every game, it just means there will be a main tank every game. People can and will still flex, it just means every game will have the most important role.
It doesn’t mean there won’t be either if you force only main tank and/or main healer why would people flex when you can’t even get people to swap to counter a hero.
I like it way better than role que. They can give main tanks some freebies and other exclusive bonuses to entice more people to play main tanks.
In their internal testing main tanks didn’t like being main tanks, because they were hunted down and were high priority and also way to important to your team.
WHAT A SURPRISE!!
It has nothing to do with a locked role, but with none of them enjoying playing a main tank and being stunned and smashed around. This is the whole problem, not many people enjoy playing main tanks anymore with all the new CC. It will be the same problem in 1-4-1 and in 2-2-2.
You literally can’t play the game if you are on a main tank, you are constantly in your enemy control. You are either punched into the wall, frozen or hacked etc.
They need to come up with a way to either make them more enjoyable (or at least playable) and maybe give other rewards at least.
What is the point of playing the game if you cant have any control over what you hero does since its controlled by your enemies and you can’t do jack sh*t about it. You also HAVE to be in contact with their front line since it is your main job as a tank, other characters can keep their distance from all the CC while main tanks have to take that in their face by definition of their job
with 1-4-1 you run into other issues such as the healer picking brig or lucio which can’t solo heal or you get hog or hampster which don’t really protect the team.
That is why his post suggests creating only 2 roles: Main tank, everyone else
You will have 5 slots to do what you wish
By this logic you can have a main healer slot too, i think it could work too.
So 3 roles:
1 main tank - rein, monkey, orisa - 1 slot
2 main healer - mercy, moira, ana - 1 slot
3 everyone else - 4 slots
In those 4 slots you can still have same compositions as now, can even play goats if you want
Except it relies purely on people’s willingness to flex and swap which if people did role que may never have been brought up in the first place. Role que also brings into play role rank which means, If play Tank I’ll be in plat, dps probably gold and support either gold or plat. There are many high rank players that can’t play a certain role at their rank so they won’t flex to it even if needed.
We already have 6 open slots and usually end up with 2 healers. Why would forcing a main tank mean anything less? With a main tank people are even more willing to heal.
Just because some people will flex doesn’t mean they’re at that ranks level and your luck if most your games end up like that, a reason for the outcry is because they are running into a lot of games that aren’t
You think that you are going to be so split up in ranks on different roles but not inside one role?
It is not really your role that you are good at but type of hero and mechanic.
For example many Tracers can easily flex to Zarya due to similar tracking skill, but would be trash on widow or Hanzo. Similarly i could be a good brig or rein and doom, but i cant aim that well, so can you expect me to flex to Zarya and perform at the same level as my main skillset on rein?
Just because your good tracing doesn’t mean doesn’t mean you know the right time to use bubbles on people or yourself and maintain high energy
I dont disagree, but it is an easier transition. Easier than transitioning from rein the way i see.
Also does it mean that if you are a good rein you know when to jump their back line as monkey and how to use your cooldowns and not die? Does it mean you can land hooks? Same thing, those are different skills and mechanics, and not many tanks share them, but some heroes from different roles do (think ana / widow or tracer / zarya / sym)
It can be easier but isn’t the same I’m pretty decent on Ana but terrible on Widow. Like I mentioned earlier I can play tanks at higher level then DPS and in maybe 1 in 100 games I have had to flex to DPS. I can’t play DPS at the same caliber I can play tanks, so now I’m putting my team at a disadvantage because I can’t preform at that level but the team needed me on that role.
Great. I queue and lock a main tank.
My moronic dps then all run past me to be constantly picked, whilst chuckling and hurp durping to themselves.
And this is in mid gold. One can only imagine how utterly miserable it would be trying to main tank in silver or bronze.
Best option in that scenario would be to get off main tank and pick a more mobile off tank or just a 5th or 6th dps to try and carry.
If you are running 4-1-1, then Hamster or Orisa are the best choices to run… This is because they are self sufficient enough to survive outside of a 2-2-2, and in multi dps comps they need to play extremely spread out to avoid being ran over by a composition that actually has multiple tanks. Because they play spread out, a shield is pretty useless, and the disruption and choas Hammond creates is a much more effective way of creating opportunity for the team. Also, in a solo tank situation, Rein has to hold up his shield literally non stop, or he gets insta-gibbed due to a lack of peel and a lack of heals, which makes him pretty useless.
I think Chengdu Hunters play Hammond as sole tank in their crazy 3 dps comps that they do quite well with.
People who think 4-1-1 is viable are the reason we need a forced 2-2-2
Yeah they do, I watch them quite often, and I have to say Ameng is a god. They find alot of success playing this style, and though they are obviously far better than any ladder team is, the template is still there. Shanghai Dragons have begun playing some experimental 3 dps comps lately as well
6-0-0 is viable if the players are good enough.
I don’t mind 5 instalock dps on my team. It’s when they’re all crap and can’t even handle 1 enemy Pharah that I feel despair.
Had a cool game (Quickplay alas) where we had 5 supports and a Symmetra. We took Volskaya both points in about 40 seconds. We kept the Symmetra fluffed and her laser was up to 200 dps and enemy just melted.
