"Main" Hero Problems

I’ve noticed a lack of places for general discussions on a variety of hero choices, so I figured why not make another localized discussion for them. Basically, if there’s a hero you frequently play, this would be a good opportunity to vocalize some problems you’ve noticed with them.

For example: I play a lot of Zenyatta, and over the hours I’ve racked into him, I’ve noticed some distinct issues with orb abilities. If a friendly Sombra teleports while you have an orb on her, it stays. But if an enemy Sombra teleports while you have an orb on her, it goes away. Small inconsistencies like that can be the difference in determining where a Sombra is, which with the addition of being able to destroy her translocater, might be enough to turn the tip of the battle.

I’ve also noticed this issue when using orbs on Mei. A friendly will continue to have the Harmony Orb affect her while shes in her ice cube, but an enemy Mei will immediately cast off the Discord Orb. The same goes for when Tracer recalls, or Reaper uses his wraith form.

Maybe these things are completely irrelevant, but they’re slightly annoying and inconsistent. If my orb is going to vanish when an enemy Tracer recalls, it should vanish when a friendly one does too. Similarly, if it stays when a friendly Mei uses her ice cube, it should also stay when the enemy one does as well. I’d prefer them to choose one or the other, regardless of which choice they make, it would at least make more sense than it does now.

Eh. As another Zen main, I don’t see Discord orbs disappearing from Relocating Sombra/ Wraithing Reaper etc. as an inconsistency. Similar to Zarya’s bubble, their disengage abilities count as debuffs.

An inconsistency would be how Zen can place healing and discord orbs through shields, while other Supports can’t heal through shields.

Edit: I’ve been playing a lot of Hammond recently and his grapple seems very inconsistent. It feels like sometimes I can attach from miles away, but other times I can’t even hold onto a threshold.

That’s probably just for leniency’s sake for the Zenyatta so you wouldn’t have to reapply Harmony Orb a second time for Mei, Sombra, etc. To make it easier for the player.

On the other way around, the enemy Mei is invulnerable in Cryo-Freeze which is why she would shed Discord along with something like Ana’s anti-heal. Reaper also goes invulnerable in Wraith Form which is why he’ll shed Discord, but keep Harmony since you’re his ally since he can still be targeted by you. Moira on the other hand (comparing since Fade is similar to Wraith) literally fades out of existence momentarily which is why she loses Harmony Orb when she fades.

Yeah, I see what you guys mean. I’d prefer them both to stay, but thats just me.

On another topic, Ana’s grenades seem to not affect Hammond’s shields. If you anti someone like Bridgette, or someone who gets healed by her ability, it stops the armor from being applied. Same goes with when Doomfist gets denied his shields from punching people. However, it doesn’t stop Hammond from getting his shields by using his E.

Oh boy where do I begin with Pharah…

  • Usually not receiving benefit from team’s tanks/shields/barriers, so she needs healing more than any other hero to be effective, yet…:
  • Lucio auras, Lucio ult, Ana grenade, zen transcendence, Moira in genera, and possibly Brig passive healing do not reach her, and the main healer that can actually heal her well (Mercy) just got a direct nerf to her healing
  • For being the most physically armored non-tank in the game, she still only has 200 HP and none of it is even armor
  • Rockets still disappear midair into another dimension if you die while they’re travelling, making kills from the grave impossible
  • self harm is exponentially higher than any other self-harming hero. Here’s an exact chart on suicide times in the game, see how Pharah is leagues above anyone else:

  • Massive Power creep. The literal last buff Pharah ever got was November of 2016, over a year and a half ago, or more than 600 days to put that into perspective, and it was just a buff to her hovering efficiency, a simple quality of life change, while everyone around her has gotten buffs and reworks over time

  • Awful ultimate design. Barrage is the worst designed damage ult in the game. It’s a suicide mission. Freezing someone in place up in open air for 4 seconds is bad game design in an FPS, that should be pretty obvious. Especially since you can’t cancel it, and its only effective if you’re 20-30 feet away from target. I survive about 10% of the time thru using Barrage. Next game you’re in, pay attention to how many times you hear 'JUSTIC-HEUGHHHH", I bet it’s almost every time

  • Boring plain lore, skins, and voicelines. “I lost a lot of good soldiers here” is the extent of her lore. All skins are the same fullbody, bulky, masculine head-to-toe military flying armor with minor variations in color and helmet designs. Everyone else at this point in the cast has gotten fun, silly, casual, or beachwear skins except Pharah. She’s been abandoned long ago

I know the feel man. I personally try to use Zen’s orb to help her survive while she ults, but it saves her only maybe a second of time unless Zarya bubbles her.

I think McCree can have a lot of those ult problems too. Its basically a suicide mission, but at the very least, he can’t accidentally kill himself while he uses it.

Pharah needs some love :frowning:

I play brigitte and there is a huge flaw in her design
She dies

I have read countless topics about how she is an unkillable monster who can 1v5 at times and my Brigitte does not function in this way

Not sure how blizzard could fix this, just pointing it out

I’d mention McCree’s flaws, but you know, I could just git gud as well.
Not worth getting all worked up about it.

Deadeye has so many benefits I’d give anything to have for Barrage…

  • Can slightly move while using
  • Can cancel it early
  • Doesn’t kill himself if used within 10 feet of any object or person
  • Is mapwide effective at any distance, no aiming required
  • After initial chargeup is instantaneous damage
  • Can use behind his team’s shields/barriers and can get ground-based healing while using
  • Can kill airborne enemies with it
  • Reloads primary ammo after use

I appreciate the Zens like you who actually know Pharah exists on their team and doesn’t ignore her though. I just don’t rely on Zen really at all because I do stealthy divebombing stuff, and the yellow balloon only lasts few seconds before I break line of sight to sneak off somewhere

I find it thoroughly annoying that no healer can do anything to Moira when she fades. Mercy can’t heal her, I think Ana used to be able to (but it was removed. I haven’t seen it or been able to do it for a while), Zen can’t orb her. Nothing. It is EXTREMELY frustrating on the other support when she fades (when she needs to) and you can’t do anything to her. Either the other heroes need to lose this same treatment or gain it. Like the Mei ice block for example. Which you didn’t used to be able to do, so Idk why you can’t for Moira.

Since the size nerf, Junkrat’s grenades have been buggy, often passing through enemies instead of detonating. This is far more frequent against heroes with small hitboxes.

Moira dematerializes, fade is an out to everything positive and negative besides steel trap.

Beats only Mercy when it comes to moving while its active.

Not directly, though there’s plenty of ways it gets him killed doing so.

There’s a delay before he draws his gun and inbetween each shot. Enough to save more than half the team with a barrier or bit of cover or just outright kill him.

If you don’t use it as an ult, you have to cancel it without firing a shot to get the ammo back.

Genji needs his deflect reverted on console.

Its so broken now that half the time damage’ll just go right through it.

His reload speed is abysmal for such a fast-paces character.

Finally, the dude just has too many counters plain and simple. And these counters dont have to do anything but hold one button for a free kill. Is it too much to ask for Genji’s counters to have to actually try to kill him?

Ans before someone brings up junkrat vs pharah-- she is one of the only heroes who can shut him down completely

Genji has,

Brigette.
Moira.
Winston.
Zarya.
Symmetra.
Sombra.

On top of Tracer dping his job easier, faster, and more reliably.

The icing on the cake is that Genji mains arent even allowed to talk about these things without 18 people poppin from the woodwork going “SO SUPPORTZ SHULD JUS BE FREE KILLS??? LERN2ZWAP!!!” as if they wouldn’t be just as aggravated if their hero struggled to do almost anything.

For Mercy:

  • When using the scroll to toggle between weapon and staff, sometimes you will put your staff away to pull out… your staff. In a moment where you need your gun immediately it can be the difference between managing to fight off a flanker and dying.
  • Sometimes the beam doesn’t register you’ve clicked to a different hero if they’re too clumped together. Not sure if this is a bug or if I just need to play around with the sensitivity a bit more, I haven’t tested it too much tbh. *
  • Valkyrie’s free flight has a weird drift mechanic if you keep Angelic Descent active. You can GA to a friendly and without pressing any movement keys, Valk will often drift backwards and upwards. This could be intentional, idk. I just know it’s annoying when I’m trying to rez someone and have to keep correcting her course so I don’t drift out of range. *

((* = things i’ve noticed but not necessarily tested thoroughly. I only started playing with Valk about a week ago after like a year long break so it could just be mechanics changes I’m not used to yet.))

Rein:

Oh, Rein. What isn’t bugged about you?

  • Charge sometimes just. Doesn’t activate. You get the “HUWAAH” and the initial movement animation but Rein just cancels it and doesn’t go anywhere.
  • Charge directly into an enemy and they just get booped rather than pinned. This bug has been around practically since launch.
  • Alternatively, charge close enough to an enemy and they get pulled into the pin even if they weren’t directly in front of it.
  • I’ve also once managed to pin a Tracer who blinked behind me. Both of us were equally surprised. (This might be the whole “favor the shooter” thing in play though, idk.)
  • Rein’s Firestrike will sometimes animate but not actually go through and the CD is reset as if it was never used.
  • Sometimes Rein’s shield will just randomly go down on its own. Or it’ll stay up despite you actually wanting to drop it and you have to go through the motions of holding & releasing M2 again to bring it down. It’s absurd.
  • Rein’s ult. Honestly. Earthshatter is a freaking gamble every time. Will it actually hit? Will it vanish into the ether? If it does hit, will it actually stun the people it hits? Who knows! Certainly not me!

Rein is easily the most broken hero in this entire game, it isn’t even remotely debatable.

How on Earth Blizzard hasn’t done anything to change him is beyond me. His charge, his ultimate, and even his melee is basically a role of the dice.

I agree with this completely. As somebody who doesn’t play Genji, I don’t think he deserved this kind of treatment. The only annoying things about Genji is his deflect and Dragonblade. I don’t think he needed another counter like Brig.

I think he needed less strength in his ultimate and more in his base kit. That would’ve helped even him out very nicely without reducing his power and presence.

Edit: similarly to Sombra. Her true power only really came from her ultimate, so they toned down the ult and increased power in her base kit.
