LUCIOBALL: A list of QoL changes

With the latest unasked change to 3rd person, I figure I’ll just make a list of changes myself for Lucioball. Blizzard, I would gladly accept a job offer to implement these changes.

List originally from my Reddit post where I rant a bit more about the problems with Lucioball, read that for context.

Disclaimer, I have no idea how this list will be formatted

  • Include the flat Busan and Sydney variants into the normal lucioball queue
    • Optionally, remove the obstacle variants from the normal queue; they’re fine for remix
  • Enable SBMM for normal queue
    • if not already enabled, and if possible (as low player counts make this impractical). Reason being, most of my games have been heavily one sided in past years.
    • Fair games in theory would be more fun than one sided games.
  • Change the normal queue to ending early by lead of 15.
    • Remove the game ending early by any amount in remix
  • Enable the gamemodes to function outside of the summer event, as a custom game
  • Come up with a better schedule for the event
    • Maybe mix it with one of those collabs the game is doing now
    • Let it last for half a season (1 month)
  • Game-wide: third/first person button toggle
  • Workshop support: ensure gamemode is compatible with the workshop functionality
    • team points, match time, and match phase in the workshop should correspond to what’s seen in the game
    • Reimplement gamemode-specific changes as best as possible to utilize workshop scripting
      • primary fire as melee (disable primary fire and make a script to press melee upon pressing primary)
      • hero select (by default it would be set to disabled but able to be enabled)
      • obey the allowed heroes list
    • Ensure same functionality in beach volleyball
      • hero select screen should show all heroes except those explicitly disabled by the game params
    • I’m not expecting the workshop to add new variables and scripts specific to lucioball; instead, the gamemode should use what the workshop already provides.
    • optional: workshop togglable setting for the original lucio ult
      • the one that would pull the ball towards the ulting player
  • reintegration of copa lucioball (mentioned by another player)
    • I understand that the player numbers might not be high enough to properly support this competitive format, so as an aternative I propose a rank-from-zero leaderboard format instead (like stadium ranked, or a format like in The Finals world tournament)

Please give this attention. Even if you disagree, leave a comment with your own ideas. Lucioball was released the summer Overwatch came out, it’s an integral part of the game that helped define seasonal events which evolved to the modern season structure and collabs. The state of the gamemode is disappointing, but it can be made to last even longer with a few fixes. The dev team at blizzard just needs to listen, and realize that players want to have fun in lucioball, not be forced into 3rd person in a map with annoying obstacles, playing up to 5 total points.

This would be a super nice change, I agree that we don’t exactly need copa. Something diffrent to replace it would be so nice, me and my buddies are on a 400 game winstreak on lucioball remix, and there is just not a lot of challenge a lot of the time. Often times, we win within the first minute, so the competition could use some improvement.

what do you mean game wide?
I don’t want to play against 3rd person abusers!

unless its strictly lucio ball only.
