Lucio PTR wallride changes arent good

Hey im a lucio main and I installed the ptr just to be disappointed and uninstalled it immediately.

Lucios wallride should be a big thing that sets better players from bad players (along with other things of course). Theyve changed his wallride to be very easy to use in the past, but this change is just unnecessary.

Good Lucio players know how to gain speed and control it very well but this change makes gaining speed literally 1 button. On top of that pressing control to get off a wall is also wack.

I dont think this change should go through even though I know its in options to change it. Its just useless and honestly didnt even need to be thought of. Make lucio have a higher skill ceiling, not a lower one.

I mean, only real difference is hitting space once instead of twice.

If you don’t like the change, turn it off in options. Gatekeeping balance changes for the sake of “skill” is how balance got out of whack in the first place.

My gut tells me OP can’t be bothered to change the setting back to the original wall ride style in Lucio’s settings. They would rather complain about the forums about it.

It’s actually a legit concern though, Lucio mains spent countless hours to perfect their craft, only to have your average Joe does the same thing with a single button press after they water down the hero.

It’s like giving Widow a rocket size bullet to help her hitting shots more consistently. Or giving Mercy super jump with 1 button press, ect. Their mains would be angry as well.

I really don’t see how this decreases his skill cap, the exact same thing was achieved by just binding jump to scroll wheel. All this does is make jumping from the wall the same speed with spacebar as well.

I’m not gonna be using it since it would screw with 300 hours of muscle memory but it really won’t change his skill floor/ceiling at all.

Sheee, their not supposed to know that. :speak_no_evil:

Next pTr patch idea :upside_down_face:

They’re literally just getting rid of 1 extra button press, the same result is achieved by binding jump to scroll wheel which a lot of lucio mains do already. It’s really not a change that decreases his skill cap.

Chill man, It’s just QoL, it’s not a buff or anything.
You can still turn it off in the settings.

I think this will not be some sort of “crazy game changer” for anyone who hasn’t been using wallride alot.

Skill ceilings do not move if you make a character easier to play. The ceiling is the theoretical and actual maximum. The metric that makes the ceiling drop is if the player can no longer do the same things they could previously, (and only if they can’t do those things, and have no compensations).

That’s the skill floor that moved instead, and lowering the skill floor doesn’t devalue anything you’ve learned as a high level player.

This is irrelevant. What new players can now do with fewer button presses, they can’t do because they dont practice rollouts.

Additionally, your old gameplay is maintained, and if you so chose, you would be granted fewer inputs to do the same as these new players which has physical benefits as a skilled player (at the barest minimum, less risk of carpal tunnel).

Not a lot of us binding keys just for a specific hero, and I have nothing bad respect for great Lucios. I myself was never good with wall riding, I couldn’t even wall ride to save my life until they made it an automatic thing. Now I m still failing the jump boost from time to time, so the change indeed will help me close the skill gap with them pro Lucio. When you don’t have the muscle memory and familiarity with the hero, small things add up over time.

Where were you when they changed wall riding any other time?

I agree here but this post is like 3 years too late :woman_shrugging:t5:

The speed jump is just quality of life. It’s not like 1 Button press instead of 2 is gonna “separate the good from the bad”. As for the crouch thing being awkward, this is an optional setting. You can just keep it off

That’s the thing, I’m no Lucio main, I’m not gonna practice his roll out or commit any of his tech to my muscle memory, I m just your casual Lucio who use him from time to time for the team or to take a break from my mains. If Lucio players don’t care about it I’m fine with it too since it’s a buff for me. But I understand some Lucio players’s concern that they keep watering down their hero.

Well, that is what separates people who main the character compared to people who just jump into the character because they look cool.

Was pressing the button twice so much more skillful? No not really

Sounds like a lower skill floor than a lower skill ceiling thing.
