Where’s that Lucio smoothness and slickness we all know and love! Speeding is off his usual movement is off and it just throws off my brain soooo much.
He also didn’t always have his Aura ring apparently.

He can’t jump higher off walls as we are used to.
And his aura is very big, like more than 20 meters or something (if I’m not mistaken), so don’t worry, just make sure you have LoS. Besides his healing seems to be lower, even during amp.
It’s there where it was at the launch, on some random patch in the uncertain future.
lifeweaver feels bad in classic bro trees not growing
Throw launch Lweaver in classic and he might have been ok LOL
He feels balanced. You can actully shoot the man consistently.
I think the thing people are failing to grasp was how the clunkiness of the game, including Lucio, was actually a good thing.
We’re talking about THE meta support in patch 1.0.
Playing Lucio in Classic, I’m thinking things like “wow, my damage actually matters”, and that’s because healing isn’t buffed to the moon. We didn’t need a DPS passive for things to actually die.
But healing is still powerful and impactful because of the slower pace and clunkier application of abilities. There are more windows of opportunity to leverage good or timely healing.
And with the game so much slower, the value of speedboost is insane.
I feel like Lucio is WAY better in 1.0 than live, and I’m enjoying support way more in Classic than live, and the ironic thing is that support powercreep is a big part of the problem. It’s not the only part of the problem, it’s just the current biggest part.
This, in classic you make plays based on largely utility and not healing.
Only people who play pedestrian Lucio like the classic version of Lucio. They get to pretend wall ride takes no skill. Wall riding is slower than walking in classic and some chuds out here think wall ride is power creep
I remembered stuff like Cassidy and Widow being crazy but I’d forgotten how terribly slow Launch Lucio was. The first game I tried him, I actually thought that speed aura was bugged out or something.
The “hey Tracer, I’ll race you!” interaction feels like a joke. It’s up there with the classic “look at this team, we’re gonna do great!”
I do like having the stadium sized aura, though. It’s 30m IIRC. I wouldn’t trade modern Lucio for Classic but it would be cool to have both that and mobility. I’d be able to make use of mobility and directly support my team at the same time, instead of like Live where if I’m not at close-to-medium range of allies, they’re out of aura. I know a lot of folks don’t care about that but granting buffs to allies is something that I personally enjoy.
it was added later. This is how he was originally.
So a character getting more power in their kit is suddenly not powercreep? I guess ice cream is healthy and the ocean isn’t wet.
Denial is fun.
Probably not in Lucio’s case. Power creep’s usually used when characters become more powerful to bring them up to par with a new, more powerful character. Imagine if current Lucio got buffed to make him competitve with Juno; that would be power creep.
Instead, Lucio was buffed so that he didn’t feel like butt. I like Big Aura™ and all but let’s not pretend that this Lucio feels great to play as.
No, fleshing out a movement mechanic that is slower than walking is not power creep. Wall riding opens up more play making options which raises Lucio’s skill ceiling significantly. But pretending that dps takes skill with 150 damage body shots and 470 damage flashfan is fun
30m in 1.0
Your response to this situation should be that Cass needs nerfs, not that Lucio needs buffs. That did happen, but powercreep slowly infested the game over time, and regardless of what form it takes, it imbalances the interaction of gameplay elements, which is why we have counterpicking being so important today.
I think he feels way better to play as, and it’s not because I struggle with wallride or anything like that. It’s because, in a coordinated environment, I can leverage teamplay with him way better, I can shotcall more effectively in the slower game, and I can have more impact overall. I’ll gladly give up the power of one character to get that back. I don’t need individualistic mechanical skill expression. I’ll hone it when it’s available, but mechanical skill expression alone is NOT what I got into this game for.
If I wanted that alone, there are PLENTY of online multiplayer games I can get into that will satisfy that. I always want it to be a part of Overwatch, it’s the mix of all of these elements that makes the game special, but I never want it to be the be all and end all. It needs to be balanced against the other elements of the game.
Buffing Lucio, who already has extremely powerful teamplay elements to his kit, to also have strong mechanical skill expression elements, is powercreep. Plain and simple.
In return for wall ride, his aura and speed boost got significantly reduced. And that was the best change for Lucio. Having more individual play making agency is important for every hero and Lucio’s kit was power shifted to have more of that in return for lower team utility. Wall ride is easily the most fun part of his kit for most players
Counter picking is so important today because 1 giga tank, not because Lucio can wall ride. His kit is fundamentally unchanged from end of ow1
Everybody can make claims like this about every character, and does. But what’s good for one character isn’t necessarily good for the game. And exchanges between one ability and another are NEVER 1 to 1. Aura size does not equal the power of wallride.
Lucio worked in 1.0 because the entire game is clunkier. If Blizzard is going to stay in denial about the fact that all of the “quality of life” changes they made were straight buffs, then yeah, he needs to keep wallride. Powercreep does make counterpicking stronger though, regardless of the number of tanks, since with more ease to effectively apply abilities, there is less power in the application of strategic or mechanical elements. Counterpicking is just easier with a solo tank since you can focus on one role and they don’t have a partner to potentially punish your counterpick.
Counterpicking will happen less naturally in 6v6, but it will still be too powerful. And there will also be 6 spots to potentially counterpick you as opposed to 5.
You use classic Lucio as a murder enabler for Mei, Genji, Reaper, Sym and Rein to bum rush the enemy out of nowhere.
The enemy moves so slow without a Lucio. He is an assist magnet
I do like his initial first two buffs but I hate live Lucio. His movement is way too easy. I miss when wall riding was an actual skill and not a default ability for anyone to just do
