Hey there, I was wondering why my FPS are so low most of the times.
I’m running an RTX 2080 Super with and i9 9900k and 32 GB RAM. So now the problem is that even with every setting on Low, except for texture filtering quality on epic, and render scale on 75% I can’t sustain constat 240 FPS.
Though when I see other gameplays where people have either similar or maybe even worse setups they are able to get those numbers no problems. Also when I turn up everything on Epic my FPS seem to be either the same or maybe even better.
I’m running the latest Windows Version as well as the latest drivers from Nvidia, if you were wondering.
In a game with everything on Epic Preset and 100%, around 180 FPS with 40 % cpu and 80-90% cpu
Everything like mentioned above; 25% usage each and even less performance. Is there a way for the GPU focus the game more?
Other games seem to run just fine even with higher settings.
I’m pretty sure this might do to the speed of your Ram? Seagull mentioned that performance of Overwatch mainly depended on that, and less so on cpu and graphics card. Maybe you might check in the bios if everything is correct for you Ram? Just throwing out my thoughts.
Well I have a 3200 MHz Kit that is running on 2400 though. (never found how to correctly set it up so that it works lmao, but don’t really mind, only really cared about the capacity being 16 GB in dual channel.)
But I used to have an 1050 Ti for a while with this current pc since I didn’t had the money to afford one of the newer ones. I didn’t really noticed the “problems” with the frames before because I was running on only 144 Hz so I only had it capped at that. Only after I recently got my new monitor this month I noticed those problems.
My old GPU was having no problems containing those 144 with ease. Now I somehow even dipped below those numbers when I was in a game previously, I just don’t know how and why.
I don’t know if it’s some kind of program that I’m running. Here is a list of programs that I usually have opened:
Discord
Chrome, a lot of tabs. Highest count was 100 tabs, though non of that ever really made an issue after upgrading to 32 gb
Team Speak
Kaspersky
Lightshot (tool for screenshots)
Kaspersky
iCue Software for my Keyboard, though it’s basically useless since for some reason it doesn’t even detect my keyboard properly.
What I just also noticed is that since I recently got a Drawing Pad, I have an driver for that is also in my programs taht start automatically with windows. Maybe I’ll try to turn that off and see.
Gonna probably try to turn all of them off when I have time to see if they have any impact on the game.
Is there some list of programs/settings that are known to interfere with the performance? I’ve read something about that razer software giving people problems.
Edit: And as I already said previously, it seems like my game is running better/similar when maxing everything out. But normally it should be the complete opposite. Thats why I was curious if there is some way to use more GPU when running the game
Veni, I’ve had this problem too ever since I got my 1660ti. I’ve tried a LOT of suggestions that I’ve seen but none of them helped me. I ended up wondering if overclocking my gpu would help and it did. More than anything I’ve tried. Though it’s supposed to give me well above 240 fps on low settings, at least I get an almost constant 165 fps now. It sucks that I can’t run it as high as it should be able to handle but… I’ll keep looking for a proper fix. If you fix the issue pls tell me how.
Well. That’s the problem. Your RAM speed is bottlenecking everything. Raise It to 3200mhz or be stuck with low fps.
You don’t “really mind” but you want to have high FPS with slow RAM speed?
I’ll try to simplify for those who actually don’t understand the “basics” about performance in OW and games in general.
For high FPS, a fast CPU (clock, ipc and at least 6 threads) is a must. But it doesn’t matter how fast your CPU is if your RAM is bottlenecking it. RAM size is only important until you have enough to not need any virtual memory. 16 GB is fine for this nowadays for almost everything.
Also, it doesn’t matter how fast your GPU is if you’re not pushing graphical settings who actually uses its power, like resolution for example. You’re bottlenecking your own GPU using low settings since your RAM isn’t fast enough to push more frames.
2400mhz is fine for 144Hz, that’s why you didn’t noticed.
You can’t just use more “gpu power” to compensate for low CPU/RAM speed. Put an RTX 3090 in this setup and you’ll have the same exact performance using “low settings”. The only difference is that the faster GPU will barely sweat to deliver those frames (read even lower GPU usage).
Of course some engines may be slightly different on requirements. But this “rules” apply to any game.
Wel i already tried to change the speed once but it just crashes my computer for some reason. And i once got it working all smooth and I had not donne anything to the RAM for this. I had an old driver + disabled full screen optimization and then it was smooth. then i reset my pc once and now its just back to being this low number, sometimes its high, sometimes its not.
Yes I do play on fullscreen obviously. Its just weird that it worked at one point with over 300 + FPS without dropping and then randomly i go down to 100 without any reasons. Increasing quality doesn’t even have any performance impact at all.
Its just weird that it worked once and always was between 300-400 and now its just like this again. I tried literally every setting in windows and nothing did change
