Has anyone noticed a big influx of low level/new players? Seems like every match I join has people under level 20. Their skill levels do not match them being new players.
……how’s gonna tell them? Those are Smurfs, my friend. Pretty much high rank players buying new accounts…for some reason.
There is a spring sale going on rn
Up to 50% off
Ahh that would make sense.
They be smurfs sadly
i would say a much higher % of mid rank players are smurfs. I dont even notice smurfs as most are plat skill or below imo
Smurfs and replacement accounts from getting banned.
You should see deathmatch. For some reason all the actual new players like to congregate there during sales, so you get games where the top 4 scores are 20-18-10-8 or something along those lines.
Spring Sale going on, so players are reaping the opportunity to reduce the cost associated with further abstracting themselves away from their “main” that they may never play again.
Instead of spending $20 or whatever the original price is, those cats can save a few bones and spend $15.
From a cost-benefit analysis standpoint, buying alts is rather sound.
For a such a low price and limitless restriction, by purchasing an alt one is acquiring:
-
a new name + free name change.
-
clean slate ban history
-
fresh MMR reset
-
unpredictable expectations (unlike a silver / gold / platinum border insta-locking D.Va for a whole comp match, turning off comms and going solo feeder mode as if it is her first time playing, forcing her team to work around or cut her off completely)
-
spotless stats for LARPing / bragging / novelty purposes.
-
+100 hours worth of easy-biased matchmaking
-
effortless and speedy de-rank potential with a “just a new player” alibi for the bottom-of-the-barrel bronze smurfs.
That’s just my take. I’ve been there.
If the game lacks content to keep the playerbase occupied, then people will find their ways to have fun.
That is how games are. Fans truly love the game, but if it grows old, they get creative.
It takes a certain kind of someone to straight-up throw / smurf, though (maybe I am just raised different). Trust me on that:
It truly tugs on my heart-strings to play outside of my rank, ruining the fun for others ( for enemies when I’m over-skilled and for my team when I am under-skilled).
Low-rank team mates just don’t know any better and they start blaming each other, when really it is my fault.
I couldn’t do it for long. I can’t do it.
Hopefully folks are like me and will climb their alts to their respective levels. Which then they will likely get bored and restart the cycle over.
I’m sure there are new players, but the game’s been out and it is not expensive at regular price.
That being said, I just assume any new account is an alternate of sorts.
Lucky for them, I always judge it on its face.
If I see a low level account, that isn’t blatantly displaying high level skill, I am going to treat them as such. I won’t make any assumptions just in case it is a new player. We need new players.
im on console and i think there a lots of people who start new accounts every week or so, usually on friday/sat
i usually play during the week and its not that bad, but the weekends are a huge smurf fest
Isn’t it even easier on console to “make an alt?”
I’ve read or heard from somewhere that one can simply by the game once and make new profiles.
That sounds like a matchmaking nightmare.
yes. sony and microsoft say you can make as many accounts as you want, and Blizzard cant over rule that
this means you can buy the game once and have as many ow accounts as you want to make.
That might be alt account players having proper MMR’s because they’re no longer leaving Paris/HLC all the time and sinking their MMR gains on that
Also the newer patch definitely improved casual gameplay drastically and will bring more players to the game
