"Lost connection to game server"

What the topic states - me and three friends live together, same internet connection (2Gb down through google fiber). For some reason, I’ve been disconnected from games for the reason of “lost connection to game server”. No one else in my house is having this issue, which makes me believe it’s not an issue on my end. Been playing for years on this connection and never had issues. No other games disconnect me, steam doesn’t recognize me as being offline, battle net keeps me connected, etc.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Is everyone playing Overwatch 2? If so and only you are getting disconnected, then it would be something on your computer that’s causing it, not the connection or the game server.

I had the same issue. I tried the steps in the following support article, but it still didn’t resolve the issue. Blizzard Support - Connection Troubleshooting (battle.net)

Note: If you’re the only one getting disconnected in the match, then it’s probably an issue with your computer or network. If most of the times there’s someone else getting disconnected at the same time as you, then it could be an issue with the server or in the network traffic route (NighthAwk nicely explains this here).

My issue was resolved by doing this:

Switching to a different server region in Battle.net launcher (you can’t switch region in Steam, so use Battle.net launcher to change region). I was on Asia, then I switched to Europe or Americas, and it stopped disconnecting me. Since the game automatically connects you to the nearest server, irrespective of the region you choose, it shouldn’t affect your latency. More details in this post by Sawada.

Also, please try:

  • Simply restarting your PC. Sometimes that’s enough to fix the issue.
  • Scan and repair game files. Steps given here.
  • Change your account password. It’s possible that someone’s trying to log into your account, causing you to disconnect.
  • Run an antivirus scan (full scan, not quick scan).
  • Try the steps in support article I’ve mentioned.

If this helps anyone out, please reply which method worked for you so it can help others with this issue. Thanks!

you gotta be kidding, its obvious many ppl are having this issue, its the god damn server issue, stop trolling

Don’t act like you don’t know anything, literally there are more than hundreds or even thousand comments (including in reddit) and OW devs doesn’t even care about players, at least a update in twitter ? NO and even here also no direct answer, don’t say like its an international issue, it isn’t happening in other games…
And yesterday night it didn’t even let me enter game, almost 6 times it kicked me out.
If this really continues i might leave this game, no option left now
(The issue has been started from last 1/2 weeks)

Those other disconnection issues you’re mentioning wouldn’t be relevant in this case. 2 different regions. Attacking me won’t fix your connection issues.

Users seeing the “lost connection to game server” that are in “asia region” facing this

if you are confident this isnt your ISP or computer at fault, then its likely the logon server.

Please check the marked solution message on this threat, try it and let us know if that works for you.

The reason OW hasnt made a statement, is cause the issue isnt from their end.

If you are playing in GSG1, I swapped to Americas in Battle.net (instead of Asia) and had no more issues with disconnects
