Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem since this week. I often get booted from games now when connecting after a match is found with the error “lost connection to game server”. Also, if I click on my career profile and then history the game freezes for around 10 seconds then boots me out with the same error message.
So far i’ve tried the following:
Reinstalling the game
Flushing dns
Clearing my highlight videos from documents
Restarting router and allowing Overwatch exception through firewall.
Any thoughts? It’s stopping me from playing comp and i’m missing it a lot
The IP address needed for the test is gathered during gameplay, but not from the training range. IPs listed on the instruction page should only be used in special circumstances.
Make sure the connection issue is caught in the test or the test lasts for at least 5 minutes.
Share your results in a reply:
Click the “Copy Text to clipboard” button after you’ve finished the test.
Paste the text in a reply, highlight it, then click </> on the post editor.
If you can’t post links, add spaces before .com/.net/.us/.au, etc., which will break the link and allow you to post.
You can also post the results on Pastebin.com and provide the link in your reply if you have issues posting results here.
Please do not remove full hostnames from the test instead of “breaking the links” with spaces, as this makes troubleshooting much more difficult.
If you require staff assistance specifically, you will need to open a ticket.
The connection looks decent, but there’s some considerable lag on your home network. The worst ping to the modem should be a max of 2–3ms since the device is only feet away.
No disconnections happened during the test, though.
Using a VPN might route you around whatever network problem you’re experiencing.
Its worth mentioning I’m on WiFi connection and also this pc is the same one I’ve played overwatch on ever since ow 1. I also get around 30ms and no lag on games as well. All other games are fine as well as Internet browsing.
Wierd about the nondisconnections though I bet that is because i used default ip rather than in game. Will try tonget in game and shoe more results later tonight as well
Here’s another one after I got online today - took 2 attempts to get me into a mystery hero game but once im in a game it never kicks me out
Then maybe a worst ping of 5ms, but that’s pushing it. On ethernet, the range is 1–2ms.
These are real ping delays, consistent with each other and contributing to overall lag in the network. These are nodes that deprioritize ICMP traffic (what this test uses) and therefore ignore ping requests, resulting in inflated values. You can ignore these.
As for not being able to connect, run a traceroute only to that server IP 137.221.78.51. That may not be the server you’re struggling to connect to, it might be the other EU one causing the timeouts, meaning something between you and the server is broken.

I’ve been speaking with a ticket to blizzard, but so far no resolution has come forward. I did have a few new traceroutes done if this can help at all? They told me I should post here instead.

That test looks fine. Do you know what the server code was for the IP you ran this test to? It’s usually the letters/numbers at the start of the line where you find the IP.
I was recently told by another player that Paris is no longer an option for custom games, so I think that server may have closed or relocated. As an FYI, I really only know the workings of servers in the Americas and Oceania, since those are the areas this forum covers. I recommend reviewing the EU Overwatch forum for notes about server locations or updates on that situation.
Mmh, I have no idea, however it may have been amsl from a screenshot I took of server 64.224.27.229 - here is the second traceroute for the other server if this helps. I also have posted on the EU forum but received no replies from there

I assume there’s no way for me to force Overwatch to connect only to a server if I find one that lets me in game?
That test also looks fine. A traceroute is only useful if you cannot login, and I thought it might be intermittent, which is why I suggested running the first one. Other traceroutes won’t help us learn anything else since we don’t know which server IP you can’t connect to.
Since I don’t play in the EU region, and I don’t work for Blizzard, the server IP list is unknown to me. Also, the WinMTR documentation is outdated, so can’t turn to those for the info. You could ask via ticket about the server IPs you need for testing the connection.
