Lost connection from server = auto suspension?

I was just starting a game when my game lost connection with the server. I restarted the game and tried to jump back in only to find myself suspended for 10 min. It doesn’t seem right to punish players for a loss of connection. ESPECIALLY when it’s an isolated incident. I don’t leave games early and i’m not a toxic player so why am I unable to try and rejoin the game i was just in less than a minute prior.

I understand that this is part of a crackdown on leavers and the like but at some point this system prohibits players who follow the rules from recovering their game and playing out their game instead of taking a suspension and an arbitrary sr loss.

Necessary evil. Game servers can’t tell if you’re having connection trouble or just unplugged your router/modem to intentionally abort a match.

Yea i totally understand the why, HOWEVER I’m just saying there should be some sort of slack, like 1 game per week (maybe even less frequent) or something that would limit abuse but would allow for some forgiveness for this specific issue.

I think that’s the intent of the 10 minute suspension. I mean, realistically… it’s 10 minutes, that’s nothing. Spend 3 minutes in queue and a single game would last longer.

But it serves as a kind of “hey, careful, DCing in competitive is a big deal.”

I do recall reading on one of their pages somewhere that it does reset as long as you can play some number of games without issue. So if you go a full, active week without DCing, the next time it happens would probably also be only a 10 minute suspension.

The official stance is that it is not YOU or BLIZZARD. (probably so they are not taking the blame or giving it)

Even though OW is the only game that really has a problem with this. I average 1-2 ISP/PC problems a year now.

As I said on old forums.

3200+TF2=No random DC’s, just if my internet/PC failed and those where easy to conclude as my fault.

1200+CSS+GO=maybe like 1 or 2?

600+Dota2=None.

800+LoL=None.

Way to many hours + WoW=2-3 random drops, and just 1 of my toons have something stupid like 200 days played.

600+L4D1/2=none.

700+OW=15ish almost all of i came back too, some i just couldn’t. To be honest probably more but the tally is just what i remember my last count.

So I am sure you can see the scale from this after removing what was clearly my fault.

15 is not that many over a couple years, but it sure does make you mad when you can add up many 1000’s of hours in many different games and still have OW take a strong lead… and these numbers are just things i couldn’t figure out why it happened…

I get frustrated too. Cause whenever that happens its when I’ve been playing with a stable connection for the past 2 or 3games then…oh hello i’ma just disconnect you when you finally decided your done warming up!

But whatever, i’m at the point where its just a game and I have a real life to manage so…meh

If you can’t tell whether a user has quit or been disconnected: don’t penalize them. Simple as that. This is a super shi**y user experience for legitimate players and those are the players who matter. If some idiots want to go to the trouble of disconnecting their router just to leave a game, so be it.
I get dropped all the way out to the login screen all the time when there are no connection issues on my side. The game doesn’t bother to try to reconnect me, gives my spot away to someone else, and then penalizes me. It’s complete garbage. Please, this needs to be fixed.

I had that happen to me multiple times. Games that I could easily rejoin, and yet 10min. And why is it 10 min anyway? What does this achieve? If you want suspend someone don’t do it for basically as long as your que time is. 10min is long enough for a game to be over and punish someone for disconnecting but wanting to rejoin, but not long enough to punish someone who truly left a game prematurely.

There is no way for the game to know you lost connection due to an issue out of your control so it punishes all incidents. You still left behind 5 team mates who’s chance at winning just decreased significantly and who now have to work harder to fill in the role you left.

You only get a 50 SR penalty for leaving.
