Losing is way too punishing

You lose, you gain quite literally NOTHING just from playing the game.

MANY other games give you SOMETHING for playing, but this game just throws up a middle finger in your face. This only got worse with this stupid Drives thing.

All it does is add to how utterly miserable this game can be at times.

Yes. At least it’s something.

I agree here… OW1 used to reward coins for basic participation. OW2 is a feast or famine environment, but if you want any decent cosmetics, you must fork over some hard cash. This is the former CEO BK’s legacy, and we will forever say his initials with scorn.

Participation awards are stanky, only justifiable thing is XP and OW has that.

Keep in mind that you are consuming your life time for nothing but stress and anger!

I miss lootboxes. It was always ok after a loss if you levelled up and got a box.

Why should the game reward failure

???

Do people forget the battle pass is a thing, it does payout stuff even to those don’t buy into it.

Because it encourages the player to push on?

Lootboxes > Battlepass.
You HAVE to spend money to get everything from the BP. The free track is basically nothing. Maybe 1 of the worst skin, a couple voicelines and some sprays and that’s about it.
Lootboxes would give you anything in the game, except gold weapons and Blizzcon exclusive cosmetics. You didn’t have to spend money, you got them just for playing. I got almost everything in the game just from playing and not spending a single cent past my initial purchase of OW1. The only reason I don’t have it all is because I took a break for several months.

Wouldn’t you push on to get a win if you knew your losses did nothing?

Loot boxes also are manipulative by nature Including the free ones. So much so they are not only banned in a lot of places. Heavily regulated in others including the US were they can get your game slapped with a rated A.

And the US has Bi-partison support to regulate the whole MTX market.

Most people would quit after a couple losses if they don’t have incentive.

I don’t see the issue in them rewarding something for playing it will help with player count.
Ow1 gave coins and lootboxes.

Like you need to understand majority don’t play comp to climb just for better matchmaking and symmetrical matchups like attack and defence etc.
Many play to just get gold weapons.

This doesn’t mean they are bad players probably good for their elo 50~ wr so most players in their elo are losing closer to half games.

There is nothing wrong in getting stuff for playing.

When someone fails, it is always better to comfort them with words than with cold stares.

I think the biggest challenge in the game is that there are too many bad players in this game. The matchmaking system has trouble distributing the many bad among the good players that there are rofl-stomps all around, which is why there are so many bad games, and losing feels bad, man.

Not any more manipulative then teasing you and trying to get you to spend lots of money in the game to get all the “cool, limited time” cosmetics.
I highly highly doubt if free lootboxes, with no option to spend money to get them, were added that it would be illegal anywhere.

For me, the incentive IS the stuff. So I wouldn’t :man_shrugging:t4:

Also side note I’ve just won 5 in a row lmfao

It varies i don’t care about incentives either but they are good systems to make people who like them play more.

People also tilt less when they lose.

I was having a good win streak on dps , then decided to try support and lost a few on Lucio.

But atleast won the ilios one :joy:

It’s more due to tank scarcity than difficulty to distribute players according to skill.
If we make it open q or hybrid q, they can do it easily.
