Lose streak "cooldown"

Basically, I have noticed that when you win a few games in succession, the matchmaker makes a special effort to match you with lower skilled teammates to check if you can carry them (you can’t)

So, these days, the moment I lose a game after a win streak, I don’t touch comp for a day or two, losing on my alt instead.

I think there is a cooldown to this.

Anyone else have any stories to back this up?

Well, first off… Has this theory been confirmed?

I’ve had a 36 lose streak or something close, and i’m fairly sure it was due to my incompetence.

I had very great matches before the loss streak, so technically it would be related to that yes?

I’m just telling you what I have first hand experienced.

Could be, But I won’t ask you to experiment.

I don’t know: I have win 10 in a row, then lose 10 in a row. Then a 5/5. I doubt there is a cooldown, but yeah…

I wrote down the outcome of my matches for a while because I noticed constant winning and losing streaks and it turned out to be true … ~75% of the time i had streaks.

But did you write down the SR of your team?

This could confirm the theory that you would get matched with lower rankings.

We need to pin-point which factors have a say in this.

The matchmaker itself might not have a cooldown, but I was thinking of others that continued to play the game while one withdrew. It would even itself out.

whoah

SR would be a good indicator, but we need to remember most people have privates

That’s not how it works though. It’s easy to make the mistake that is how it works.

See, you win a few games in rapid succession - the matchmaker gets confused. It thinks you should be playing against better players, so it matches you against people higher up in the SR department.

Secondly, you could, like, just have some really s****y comps… I mean, it happens a lot. You’ll be running a neat win streak and then all of a sudden you get a Wrecking Ball, Orisa, Widowmaker, Hanzo, Zenyatta and for the lulz a Baptiste…

True, but we could get at least some data using this kind of calculating.

I have noticed most of the times that the SR is more or less same.

The most extreme example I saw was a plat tank in a mid silver game, but then he admitted to boosting his teammates, so I thought that was different.

Why does this happen? How can suddenly everyone become a bot if there were good comps earlier?

Valid point

I think it’s just how the matchmaking is, it tries to keep everyone near 50% WR.

If players are often getting win and lose streaks then one wonders whether the matchmaking algorithm is somewhat inefficiently designed, effectively boomeranging up and down the ladder.

I have no ideas about programming or algorithms so I won’t even go there. I hate talking about things I have no idea about

Could be tbh

I’m not so sure.

Rank is just bvllsheet roullet :point_right::point_left:

I notice similar patterns, I feel like the better you play the worse the players you get grouped with. Streaks seem all too common to me, 5 wins in a row then 5 losses. Might be chance still, seems suspect at best though. I dont see it as the game just matching you with higher level opponents either, I feel many games I play the same or often better when we lose than win, I healed 12k with 2k damage and we win, I did 12k damage and 27k healing and we lose ? :woman_shrugging:

Same

Same

OH BOY SAME SAME SAME

I have won games with single digit elims and lost games with 30+

Wut?

No, I only wrote down loss, win and draw and games with leavers. And much more interesting would be the MMR of players but we can’t have that.

Are we making our own matchmaker now :joy:

I do feel like that and was actually thinking about doing a strategy like this. I also feel that the game sets you up to win many games in a row and then to lose many games in a row, I often feel like some days I win 80% of the time and others I lose 80% of the time. Not playing the game when I detect those lose streaks almost got me to Plat in both DPS and Tanks and is what got me off Bronze to mid Silver in Supports, but often you separated that specific day to play that you are on the lose streak and might not be able to play for the rest of the week, and playing only on the win streak days feel too slow to climb. So here I am, back to low Gold on DPS and Tanks and low Silver in Supports.

These are screen shots from my last 20ish games.

These are the first 10

These were the next 10

This happens to me. A lot

After that lose streak there I’m currently on 5 consecutive new wins.

It’s pretty frustrating, No matter what side I’m on.

I hate losing when the enemy team is literally comprised of 4000+ SR members

And my team is half silver

This is one of those games as an example:

And I equally hate winning as much when I feel like we won because the enemy was as incompetent as my team was during those lose streaks.
