Lore Question: Pharah

When did Pharah leave the Armed Forces and join Helix? I assume that it was after Overwatch fell, because the combination of her mother and her career in the Armed Forces wouldn’t allow her to join the military, but Ana “died” before Overwatch collapsed. Which would have left only her career in the Armed Forces preventing her from joining Overwatch, or it could have helped her join Overwatch. But she was never able to, and did join what I assume to be the next best thing or closest she could get. Helix Security International. So when did she actually join Helix and leave the Armed Forces? Anybody got any answers for me?

Does nobody have an answer or idea, or do most of you just not care?

This is a good question, give me some time, I’ll try to figure it out if I can❤️

Nice to talk about Lore😁

Alright I hope you have a good answer.

It is always nice to talk about the lore.

Maybe she was only around for one tour with the military and decided to leave it for private sector work. Is this the truth? The world may never know!

Hmm maybe. I always thought that she wasn’t able to join Overwatch because of her career in the military.

Hopefully Mr. Chu can give us an answer on this.

I’d like any bit of lore we could get on her. So far the only lore we get in-game are ‘I lost a lot of good soldiers here’ and ‘Reinhardt, I had a poster of you on my wall as a child’ Not very compelling

I had always assumed that she joined the army first to kind of train herself to be the best soldier she could be before she committed to Overwatch. Overwatch being her mother’s first baby, and Pharah having grown up idolizing the Overwatch team and dreaming of her chance to join, it kind of makes sense that she would want to do Overwatch justice by excelling at her role as soldier. With a stint in the Egyptian army she could ensure that her service record would basically earn her a spot in Overwatch rather than just be accepted mostly because she was Ana’s daughter.
Basically so she could let her actions and leadership in the army speak for themselves. I think it was Pharah’s way of proving to herself that her mother was wrong in not letting her join. Unfortunately, Overwatch fell before she could join and she never got that shot to make her mark.

Yeah anything would be good right now, but I am really curious about this particular part of her lore.

I’ve always thought Pharah didn’t get into Overwatch because Ana wanted to protect her and knew Overwatch agents were getting hunted down.

Interaction:
Pharah: I always dreamed of the day we would fight together.
Ana: Wanting a better life for you is all I ever dreamed of.

But weren’t they being hunted down after the organization fell?

Jeez, calm down. Telling us we don’t care yet you basically just posted this to try and get an answer from Blizzard themself.

Also, the answer to your question is literally on her wiki page.
“With her exemplary record, Fareeha was well placed to join the ranks of Overwatch, but before she had that opportunity, Overwatch was disbanded. […] After leaving the army with a commendation for distinguished service, she was offered employment with Helix Security International […]”

Don’t know. It crossed my mind that Reaper was betrayed (in his perspective) so he had the “list” to rid Overwatch as revenge. I thought this happened before Overwatch falling since the Overwatch Swiss headquarters was attacked but noone knows who or why yet (I like many assume due to Gabriel and Jack).

I am calm. I was just concerned that people didn’t really care about this since it was buried very quickly even though people tend to jump at lore threads here.

I know that is on her wiki page, but it never says when she left the military and joined helix. All it really says is that she was never able to join the ranks of Overwatch, even though she could have and joined helix after leaving the army.

I thought reaper came about after the fall of overwatch and then he began his reign of terror.

Hmm. It is likely. I think that she remained in the Armed Forces since Ana was preventing her from joining Overwatch, but when she “died” Pharah didn’t try to join Overwatch out of respect for her mother’s memory. At least that is a new idea that got into my head.

Yes, I agree. Or also, subconsciously, maybe she blamed Overwatch for her mother’s death and felt some sort of anger towards them. Emotions she was maybe working through at the time Overwatch was disbanded.

I thought that she didn’t join overwatch because Ana didn’t want her to. And then by the time she was ready/determined to join overwatch, it had disbanded. So instead she joined Helix.
No idea how true that really is, it’s just what I thought.
