Blizzard seems too focused on OWL to consider how they can tackle the lore demand while getting some profit with one of the oldest tricks, comic books, why don’t we have OW comic books? there is enough stuff to print about, one for each hero, one or two issues for each lore event and so on and so forth.
The only thing I would like to avoid is Blizzard having to deal publishing rights with Disney (who owns Marvel), DC, or any of those who end up flopping because they need to insert more politics into the medium.
It’s not like Blizz doesn’t have the same problem. They hijacked the Christmas event to announce Tracer is in a relationship with another woman so they could pat themselves on the back. The first time a lesbian has ever been in a video game ever!!! We did it guys, we ended homophobia!!!
Printing isn’t that cheap as far as I’m aware and the demand for lore for each hero may not be high enough to cover costs. Additionally, just because someone wants more lore doesn’t mean they want to pay for it. I’ve read probably 200-300 comic volumes in my life but, I own only around twenty.
With a mostly online fan base piracy will be a huge issue.
You could attach ingame content to increase sales but, it’d annoy players
Is just a matter of asking people, as for the in-game content, a coupon for regular loot boxes or even currency would suffice, no need to add very exclusive content.
That’d potentially cut down on the $ they’d make from lootbox sales.
Additionally, with an active enough account regular loot boxes and currency aren’t that great as incentives because they’d have everything they want from the regular boxes already and with the exception of those that like most skins their currency collection would be sufficient to purchase most regular skin
