I’m thinking of purchasing the 50 loot boxes for $39.99. I play the game daily with a mix of quick play and competitive. I have 18,675 credits to spend but I always wait until the last day to purchase the skins if I didn’t get them through loot boxes. Has anyone got most of the new skins through buying lootboxes?
What are the credit for, except to use for skins?
I like seeing the number go up lol.
Just give me your $40 if you’re going to throw it away on something stupid as lootboxes.
Personally, I follow a personal rule not to spend money on loot boxes and OW in general, with the only occasional exception being OWL skins.
If you think spending 40 dollars on imaginary clothing is going to bring you happiness then spend 40 dollars on imaginary clothing. I personally wouldn’t anymore for Overwatch, but I’ve spent money on dumber things.
That said; if you have to question a forum on if it you should or shouldn’t then I suspect you shouldn’t, because the forum shouldn’t decide or even influence how you spend your money, and is about the worst place for such advice in the universe.
In fact the only things that should influence your choice to spend your money is, “do I have financial security in which I can make this purchase,” “is this safe,” and “does this spark joy?”
Answer those questions and go from there. In that order.
I’m more just asking if others have got most of the skins by purchasing the loot box bundle. I’m not willing to spend $40 if I only get 1-2 legendary skins.
You likely won’t even get 1 Legendary Event skin.
99% of the time the answer is no. IIRC you get about 1 legendary for every ~12 boxes.
I mean it’s your money and you can do whatever you want with them. I have around 20 000 or 30 000 currency on my main acc so i don’t really bother getting so many lootboxes since i already have pretty much every item in the game.
But i do spend more on my 2nd one because i want to start collecting as much as i can so i can start saving up currency on my 2nd acc as well.
And ofc that’s all on me and idc if ppl thinks that’s a bad idéa because it’s my money and i can do whatever i want with them.
So honestly it’s just up to you if you feel like it’s worth it.
Edit: at least from my experience if you buy 50 lootboxes you probably will end up getting most of them, because that has happened to me through that method.
Loot boxes operate on diminishing returns.
The bottom two tiers are common, Epics are rare, and Legendaries are very rare.
The more loot boxes you buy/earn-by-level, the greater your total amount of Legendaries and Epics becomes.
Eventually, your stuff gets close to max and there’s less to get. Your Coins start to pile up. Duplicates start to happen – and the coins you get from those are fairly small compared to the amount it would take to unlock them with coins. A Legendary duplicate gives you 200 coins. A Legendary you want to unlock will cost either 1000 coins if it’s “old” or 3000 if it’s new.
If your inventory is close to max, you’ll need about 25 loot boxes with reasonable leveling to “get everything” during an event like this.
If you just started the game and have a small inventory, it’ll take more.
Keep in mind there’s an event I think in May where ALL event items from any event become available for the duration of the event. So, even if you didn’t get everything, but are willing to wait, take that into account.
Hope that helps a bit!
To be perfectly honest with you, I bought lootboxes during the first 2 or 3 years of the game for pretty much every event. There were events that took me only 20 boxes to get everything and than there were 2 events I remember were I didn’t get 2 new event legendary Items out of 80+ Boxes. Its all luck dependent.
I played this game since 2016 and i havent bought any lootbox and yet i have everything i need, youll noticed it even more when a new event comes or heroes that the rng will favor the new stuff over duplicates.
I remember when echo was released i earned 10 lootbox after playing for sometime and 98% of the lootbox is echo related with ocassional coins and duplicates.
Well, loot boxes do help support the game, pay its staff, and provide the profit the company needs to justify continued development. If you’re satisfied with the game, the best way tio express it is to buy some boxes.
I have nothing against people who buy them but they are like gamble and it can be addictive so be careful, there is a reason it was banned in some counties.
I just wish that this practice is changed in the future, just give us an option to buy the specific skin etc that we want not by some rng. I would be willing to lay money on it if that was the case.
I think loot boxes are gambling, yeah, but there are games that are so much worse in that regard. Genshin Impact (I think it would be Game of the Year were it not for this) has people gambling like hundreds or thousands of dollars per content banner. There are YouTube videos of streamers melting down because they spent like 7000 dollars to get Diluc. They visibly do not look well, even though they “got it.”
Overwatch loot boxes are gambling, yeah, but not that sort of insane out of control gambling.
every game companies target market right there folks
No, i have over 200 hundred un opened lootboxes, just play and grind them out, never worth the money
Whatcha mean? I like seeing my gold accumulate. Much like in real life.
Loot boxes are NEVER worth it.
You’re literally giving money to a company for a chance to unlock skins for a game that you literally do not own according to the bnet account ToS.
