I’ve seen people talk about how expensive the skins are in the game and I understand, yes there’s pently of skins that I want to get, but most of them are aimed for coins and I don’t have much and not everyone else does. Blizzard doesn’t like poor people, so they cater for the people that have money and can get those expensive skins. It’s sad to see it like that, because it is like that. That’s why they got rid of the loot boxes or sort of just fired the guy that gave us the loot boxes. A lot of the fans are a problem as well, but some of them know what should be added back and the others that just want skins for a support character that don’t really need a skin every season. Blizzard will always disappoint, nothing more. loot boxes were fun to get, which made people play more of the game. Ah and yes, people are gonna say something about how loot boxes are illegal in certain areas, Yes, you’re right, but bring back the loot boxes in certain areas where they’re not illegal. And not only that, bring back getting coins just by doing challenges, It does take long to get coins, but maybe they can find a faster way.
Loot boxes are tough, because I agree the lootboxes were better than the store is, however the gaming industry decided it was “gambling” so it’s illegal in some nations. So that’s why lootboxes are stopping. But I don’t get how an aI ran store front is more ethical than lootboxes.
I feel like they could still do loot boxes when you level up just don’t have them be purchasable.
Keep the store the way it is now let people pay $$ for the skins they want or just keep playing and hope RNG loves you.
You know how bad the monetization in this game is when you have ppl asking for lootboxes to return.
I dont think the gambling aspect would be the primary barrier to lootboxes returning right now.
The primary barrier right now is that the games revenue comes entirely from the sales of cosmetics and items containing cosmetics like battlepasses
Freely awarded lootboxes means players need/desire for cosmetics is greatly reduced
My need for cosmetics evaporated when the pricing was established.
It is very rare for me to buy anything outside of the pass. Every 3 seasons or so, I might buy a bundle (skins coins pass) if the amount of coin included will cover a few seasons beyond that season.
Before OW2, I had collected nearly every single skin in the game, with the exception of the team skins, though I had collected one of every team for one hero just to have one of each.
Since then, I have stopped. Unless skins are priced no higher than 10 bucks for uber ones and 5 for most of the rest, they can keep them. Its not about affordability, its just stupid to pay so much for essentially… Nothing.
They aren’t important enough. And the same applies to the other games.
Yeah, you can say there would be a vote here for loot boxes to return. I actually enjoyed those, and I would daresay that Blizzard got more money out of me on those than they will with the “shop”.
Game on.
Because you know what you’re getting in the store vs being out of luck with lootboxes.
The last video I made opening loot boxes before the upgrade. lol
I dont think lootboxes will ever be sold again due to the gambling pronouncement
Tho i suppose it would be possible on a country be country basis if it could be accurately determined what country a buyer is in and from in the transaction software, if the buyers country does not consider the sale of lootboxes as gambling
It would not be a small effort to code and maintain this, tho, with huge risk in fines for any mistakes
But I walked away with way more from lootboxes than I did the store.
What if they brought back lootboxes, only put in icons, sprays, voice lines, and maybe victory poses as items, and then the 4th item is always Premium Coins?
Nobody cares about those, so you can’t say people are really gambling, you’re just getting some items and guaranteed coins. If you earn the lootbox, you can only get about 50-150 Premium Coins, if you buy a lootbox, you can get 500-1000 PC. If you buy a bulk pack, you can get 1500-3000 coins.
This way they can keep their stupid shop, but players who don’t have hundreds of dollars to throw away at nothing, have an actual reason to want to play.
Imo it depends on how lootboxes are acquired (thus how often they’re acquired), the type of boxes, the box contents, and the content odds of each box.
If they attach the loot boxes to behavior and holiday events, and tweak the numbers they’ll be fine.
Examples (obviously these aren’t meant to be final, but just the general direction):
Normal box:
- 40% random unowned credit cosmetic worth <= 250 credits; or 10 mythic prisms; or 50 OW coins
- 30% random unowned credit cosmetic worth >= 250, <=500 credits; or 15 mythic prisms; or 100 OW coins
- 20% random unowned credit cosmetic cosmetic worth >= 500, <=750OW credits; or 20 mythic prisms; or 150 OW coins
- 10% random unowned credit cosmetic worth >= 750 OW credits; or 25 mythic prisms; or 200 OW coins
Anniversary box:
- 40% random unowned OW Coin cosmetic* worth >=250, <= 500 OW coins; or 30 mythic prisms; or 250 OW coins
- 30% random unowned OW Coin cosmetic* worth >= 500, <=750 OW coins; or 35 mythic prisms; or 300 OW coins
- 20% random unowned OW Coin cosmetic* worth >= 750, <=1000 OW coins; or 40 mythic prisms or 350 OW coins
- 10% random unowned OW Coin cosmetic* worth >= 1000 OW coins; or 45 mythic prisms: or 400 OW coins
*(Includes skins that can also be bought for credits ; no non-blizzard crossover cosmetics; no mythics)
Honor 5: 5000 exp and 1 normal box
Season start: 1 normal box
Regular events: 1 normal box
Holiday events: 1-2 normal boxes
Anniversary: 1-2 Anniversary boxes
Honor 5 during anniversary: 5000 exp + At least 1st box during the period is an anniversary box
The prime result is making profit. And BP filler. You’re not going to see a BP full of skins anytime soon, especially not legendaries or even recoloured epics.
Way “more” for people who didn’t already own everything. They’d just get coins and nothing to use them on.
I’m not a fan of the shop or the prices, but this is a business that has a goal to achieve profit. Where will profit generate from in lootboxes? Because buying them is illegal in a lot of countries.
cs2 gets away with this using the xray scanner or something similar to it
Not sure how a physical xray scanner would help with transactions for a virtual product that is illegal in some countries
Businesses don’t like poor people.
I don’t think getting sprays and a few blue skins was more but if that’s what you enjoyed awesome. The credit system to get ow1 skins is way better than rolling the dice to just never get the skin you wanted.
Spending $40 guaranteed every single white and blue item. A lot of purples almost all of them and half the legendary items too. They also gave out coins so I could save up in the off seasons so when new ones dropped I could pick what I wanted. Now it’s buy one skin for $20. And that’s it. It’s not better it’s not even close to be okay. Store front is far less bang for your buck.
Noteworthy here: loot boxes you paid for were identical to the ones you earned for free.
Veteran accounts had virtually everything unlocked before OW2 was released and it was more than attainable through ordinary play time.
If you played enough
This is the key.
I had an alt account (that I linked a video on above) that only earned boxes with time played on it. I did not earn nearly enough to unlock everything on it.
My main account I bought a lot of boxes, because again, I didn’t have the time to invest and grind boxes for free as much as some others.
Yes, you could have put enough time into the game and earned enough boxes to acquire every single item without spending a dime (outside of the few items tied to specials or Blizzcon and the like)
But not everyone invested that amount of time and instead went the purchase lootbox route. Which was still fine. It certainly was superior value-wise to the current store if you are wanting to collect everything.
But if you only wanted a few skins directly, the shop may be the better solution. To a point.
I think we can all agree the shop is overpriced and greedy on the whole.
