Easily my favorite hero since the rework. I’d like some tips/advice to step my game up. Thanks.
If you see a sheild sticking out around a corner, left click it and build charge while you have protection of hiding behind the wall.
When you are on the hero select screen… pass over Symm and click on another hero, LuL.
Watch some good streamers of Symm. Stevooo and Abandoned are two top 500 Symm mains that stream pretty frequently and play mostly Symm.
Other than that, without seeing gameplay, we can’t tell you where you can improve because really it comes down to individual games with Symm.
Placing the turret on the hanging tire on 1st defense point of horizon can make it tricky for enemy to shoot down especiallly if you have a dva fly into the tire or have someone shoot at it so it moves around
Yay, a Symm post! I loved playing Symm this season, so here are my tips.
-
Always idly charge up your alternate fire and reload to interrupt it before it fires off. This way, if a Genji tries to dive you, or a McCree jumps out of nowhere, you will already have half the orb charged up. It’s generally a good idea to charge up an orb when rounding a corner for this same reason.
-
Always use TP. Whenever it is off cooldown, place a TP to the nearest high ground. Even if you don’t need it yet, it is good to get in the habit of doing so, because unless it is destroyed, it only has a 2-second downtime, and an INSTANT portal to high ground can allow you to dodge damage and gives mobility escape options to non-mobile heroes like Ana, Orisa, or Zen.

TP turret combo. You probably already have seen someone use this because it’s pretty standard. Place down three turrets, and make sure they are all done setting up. THEN place down your TP on top of them, they will instantly go through the TP and start blasting any enemies on the other side with 150 DPS INSTANTLY. You need to place to turrets down FIRST so that they all go through at the same time, and won’t need to go through any set-up time. Use this attack from the enemies backline, using your TP to get there. Only target 200 health characters, most preferably ones with low mobility, as they will have less than a second to react.

Primary fire. Despite the constant hate this weapon get’s, it is the second most powerful ability in her kit. (The most potent thing being her Teleporter.) You don’t necessarily need to charge this upon barriers, but that is the more preferred way to do it. Now that it charges up faster it is even easier to get value out of. However, you should only do this during team fights, where you are less likely to get destroyed. Pick targets in this order:
- Tanks - Charge up the beam on their impossible to miss hitbox. You don’t NEED to kill them, once it’s fully charged, move on to step 2.
- Support - Melt them with a fully charged beam when they try to heal tanks.
- Back to Tanks - Melt them now that they have no healers.
- DPS/Cleanup - Kill the remaining enemies. Usually, the DPS will try to retreat, so set up turrets ahead of time, to counter that.
Those are all the tips I have for right now. Good luck!
I find a good sym crazy annoying… but something they do in particular that triggers me:
They use their shield wall to protect their turrets in a corner. Like, the shield wall will be directly behind (almost touching) the turrets, so in order to pick off turret you need to basically walk directly under it, and even if you do it is sometimes really hard to kill the turret if you angle the wall correctly…
I swear I get some serious sym smurfs in my low silver matches…
The other day I was on Temple of Anubis and got 60 elims as Sym when we went 6-5!! it was a crazy match!!
Make sure you charge off shields and large targets like Roadhog, Zarya, Rein and his shield. The damage ramp will eat through literally everything!!!
When Mei Ice Blocks…drop ALL your turrets at her feet and charge a right click. Dead Mei.
The teleporter is your groups FRIEND!! use it to access high places, flank around the enemy, and use it to get sweet ult plays! Example: Rein got a 5 man shatter when I TPd him to that moving bar above point B on Horizon Lunar Colony on attack!!
Throw your turrets up on walls to help counter Pharrah.
if you waitr for just the right moment the barrier ult can block a LOT of ults!! I blocked a Rein ult a few times!! It was hilarious XD
I can’t believe I never thought about this. Nice tips
That’s what I live by. Her primary is very underrated which is fine by me. I like it when the enemy thinks I’m no threat ![]()
Oh I do this a bunch. Gotta love it when you outskill your counter ![]()
It’s sometimes great to be underappreciated. To be honest, it would suck if they ever made Symmetra mainstream, let alone meta. She is so damn powerful in the right hands, if she gets too many buffs to her primary or ANY buffs to her other abilities, she could spiral out of control real fast. I think one of the last buffs she’ll need would be a special TP callout button that you can spam when you place a TP in solo queue.
That way your teammates have no excuse when they flame you for being useless.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to explain to idiotic teammates that we lost because they just ignored my flanking invitations. I spam group up for the time being, but a separate TP button would be handy because I don’t think the average OW player has the mental capacity to put two and two together just yet… ![]()
I have one tricked Symmetra since I have started the game and this sym is the most fun to play.
There are many things to learn in her kit, but once you have them down there is little you can’t do.
Primary
Her primary is strong once it gets ramped up, assuming you have decent tracking. I can usually maintain between 45-50% accuracy. Ramp it up and take down the enemy supports. Healing is very powerful, even if you dieyour team will be at an advantage. The better you get with it the stronger you will be.
Alt fire
In close to mid range they do great burst damage. Most sym mains use this in place of their primary instead of as a place holder until you can use your primary. It’s burst damage is nice to remove the armor that her primary is weak against.
Turrets
Now that you can throw them her sentry turrets are bae. Place them above melee rage in a triangle around where you are fighting. People play more attention to them the more clustered they are.
When it comes to throwing them think of then like players. If there are out and one goes down it is ok to throw one in, but if all three are down, throwing only one in will do less than wAiting for all three to come up. If placed properly they will always be at the fight before you and won’t be noticed until at least one person is dead.
Teleporter
So good. It gives your team mobility. There are many plays you can make if your team can work with you, but it helps even you if the team doesn’t use it. Every time it is off cool down place it up somewhere. Even if you don’t use it you will want it up before you need it. Use it to get to high ground and act as a flanker.
Photon barrier
God tier ult. I average about 6000 damage blocked with it a game, enough that I feel like an off tank. The biggest mistake I see people make is using it as a rein barrier, you almost always want to throw it in a straight line. Fighting in overwatch is done strafing left and right while pushing back and forth. If you place it like a rein holds his shield you are protected from strafe fireing but the enemies forward push kills you. If you put it out as a line your strafing acts with a shield dance, and your push always has a shield. It builds quickly so don’t be afraid to use to to push in or stop a push.
The hardest part of sym is learning to play against her counters. Tele away from the Winston and orb him down some before trying to primary him, place your sentries high to deal with the pharah.
My biggest advice is to find people to play with. The more people who know you are a good sym the less there are flipping at your hero select. I have managed to find enough people to almost always be six stacking and it has made competitive more fun.
Here are some of tips u can use
-
use her turret as a temporary mini barrier against widow headshots, even if you used all three this will prevent you from dying. Its also effective to some large projectile such as helix rocket, icicle and even deadeye.
-
stand in between her photon barrier when meteor strike is imminent, symm will not take any damage.
-
use her TP as a lure or bait, destroying it will not feed enemies.
-
Practice ADAD and jumping while beaming in one specific point, this helped me allot with my aiming using her m1
I hope this helps
