Symmetra’s kit is 50% healer and 50% dps, and the majority of players seem to prefer her to be 100% healer, but blizzard’s obvious bias towards DPSs maintain this idiotic tug-o-war.
Now tell me, why would anyone want to pick healer sym over brig, lucio, or even zen? She will still be just as trash as she is today, it won’t help her out one bit.
The team with the actual off healer would have a significantly higher chance of winning
Minus Homing Beam, Photon “E” and Pierce Orbs; what is a Support Symmetra?
The only thing I liked about 2.0 that was anything remotely Supportive was Ultimates. But in all honesty what can a Support Symmetra do that will justify picking her over other Supports?
Remember, additional HP normal abilities (Lindhom Armor Packs) and the like are disallowed.
I know but this guy phrased it like it wasn’t even an option on the table. Just because they removed the old ones doesn’t mean it won’t work with how much Overwatch has changed.
While there’s certainly real fears to be had that Blizzard could choose an unnecessarily drastic route for such a rework, sometimes I feel like a lot of people just have a deep stigma against supporting and/or have a narrow view of what it entails.
Like a lot of Sombra mains get downright offended at the very notion that her kit is “supportive” and will bend over backwards to claim she is anything but. Same with Mei, there’s that minority will deny to high heaven that there’s anything remotely Tank-like about her and they seem utterly horrified by the very idea that they could possibly enjoy those qualities of her.
Not that it’s exactly surprising, this sort of prejudice is pretty deeply rooted in the gaming community. After all, everyone knows big DPS numbers are a direct reflective of the size of your willy.
Difference is though is Symmetra WAS a support! So it would make perfect sense for them to rework her back into it. Even over buff still has her on the Support label
Oh, indeed and she never should’ve been moved in the first place if you ask me, and it seems Geoff now shares that view…
She’d have a far bigger audience in Support, is still really only used for her supportive abilities, and I’m not exactly a huge fan of stereotypes but her appearance certainly reads strongly of a Support and her personality (and therefore combat style) suits the role better.
And at this point, it’s pretty clear she’s never going to be able (or allowed) to thrive as she is in DPS. If she doesn’t move back to Support, she’s pretty well guaranteed to stay forever “niche” (aka trash outside of teleport), or prehaps worse, is going to end up even further stripped of her unique aspects in favor of more generic DPS power.
From what i heard about that interview, her healing will not just about the turret but she will have a main healing ability, the healing turret is just an additional healing ability just like moiras orbz.
The way i see it is she will have a new weapon which will probably grant healing or something like that and her dmg potential might shift to make her either a dedicated healer or an off healer.
We realy dont know what will happen but i have this feeling that this healer symmetry is going to be completely new as in all
New abilities/weapon/builds and ult, they might not even give her the healing turret and replaced it with healing station created from hardlight.
you can’t make her a viable support (i.e. have a spammable heal) whilst letting her able to dynamically switch between flanking for picks, flanking for zoning and front line pressure dps jobs without entirely redesigning he to the point of might as well making a new character:
that’s done by
making her tp more frequent like old 3.0 tp,
improving her orbs to be more aimable (i.e. balanced around being faster projectiles with burst damage).
not completely changing her focus from killing to keeping allies alive.
