Hey, y’all. I have been playing Overwatch now since around the launch of Overwatch 1 and have decided to uninstall it today. For a long time now, I moved on from Quick Play and have been playing Overwatch for its Competitive game-mode. It took me a long time to climb throughout the years, but I finally got to a place where I feel confident in my playstyle. This season, I got to Grandmasters 3 (higher than I’ve ever been) and for some reason, it felt wrong. Although I know that I am good at the game, the match-making system has been so out of whack that my climb to GM3 feels like a fluke, even if I am sure that I could get there normally with enough play-time. Despite feeling wrong, I continued to play. I ended up losing so many games to what I attribute to be an unfortunate case of being teamed up with players who do not know how to play in the rank that they’re being put in (to no fault of their own), or players getting put into ranks that are way below what they should be playing at (to no fault of their own either). Although I have always loved the feeling of rising and falling through the ranks in hopes of climbing to the top, lately, it all feels like it’s not worth it. Will I come back in the future? Of course! I love this game and I am willing to try to come back time and time again until something changes, IF something changes. I have hope that the Overwatch devs will figure something out and prove everyone who doubts them wrong. Until then, to everyone in the community, continue to play if its still fun to you and if it’s not, just give it a break. Maybe if enough of us give it a break, we will see a change even sooner than expected.
About to do the same. Took a several week break and came back and its no better after months of them being ‘aware’ of the issues. Playing OW2 is just reliving the most hated parts of OW1 over and over with each comp season.
I would personally love to see a movement where a large number of players uninstall as a middle finger to the man.
Maybe then they will wake up and prioritize fun over whatever this is they are doing.
They continue to do what they do at blizzard because people still log in to play everyday.
One person uninstalling isnt enough sadly.
I would happily join.
I’m just waiting for a CC to give an announcment to uninstall or throw all matches.
We really need this. The reddit mods censor a lot of bad press. These forums ironically do a better job on neutrality. Twitter is filtered. The other place you can scream is ttv chat and youtube comments.
So it will take one or more of the influencers to bash this company enough and encourage mass boycotts. ATVI sponsors them, and helps boost their search results for the yt algs, and clickbait views and bots help do the rest. So it would likely come from outside CC, the people that cover multiple games. They’ve mostly already come and gone with OW/ATVI, leaving 3/10 reviews and the like.
They might be sabotaging their competitive PvP in hopes that the playerbase will migrate to their PvE in frustration.
I climbed from D5 to Masters 4 in 6 hours so I get your point. It’s a coinflip rank system that we have and it needs to change.
I climbed from B5 to B3 in 1/2 season from the moment I gave up the idea of climbing and started playing dumb.
I totally agree
don’t worry, you will be back in low dia soon if you keep playing.
The point is that it’s not accurate. What you see is not your real rank and there are heavy issues with the matchmaker. One game I play vs Grandmasters and I stomp them, the next game I lose vs plats. Ranks are completely irrelevant and there is no indicator about the actual skill level of your team/enemy. It needs changes ASAP.
Back with SR, you felt the gains and losses. They were impactful. I got to 3300 SR and games started to toughen up. I dropped to 3000 and it was like I was bullying plats. Nowadays idk what to expect so I gave up trying to care about these things, I just play and if I climb I climb.
My rank sits around D2-D1, I dropped to D5 after many losses in a row. Most of the time I’m D1. But the point was not me climbing, it was how bad the rank system is.
btw i climbed from d3 to gm3 with 50% win rate at the beginning of the season. awesome rank system
Just uninstalled my self. The game has never been more frustrating to play. matchmaker is ABSOLUTELY BROKEN. Sure we get faster q times, but I would take a longer q to have more quality matches. Balance is a joke. One tank just does not work, flanker watch has gotten old really fast. Removing almost all CC from the game was a massive mistake. Half the tanks in the game feel like you’re playing with a 3rd DPS instead of a tank. Overwatch 1 had its list of issues, but at this point it was miles better than the money grab that Overwatch 2 is.
It’s a video game… No one cares if you play it or not.
I’m pretty much there too. Blizzard doesn’t want to acknowledge that they were terrified their many years of work (whatever that was, I don’t see anything) will completely flop despite going free to play so they made instant queues with the sacrifice of putting comp integrity 6 foot under. Gz you get 40 second queues, enjoy facing this master stack while you’re trying to climb out of gold.
Don’t complain though, it’s a free game, you have no right to complain /s.
The game really needs this. There are so many paid streamers it would be the biggest blow if any of them would pull it off
Been on a Break since start of season 2. One of the best choices I ever made in gaming
I wrote the post with the intention to relate to the other players in the community who feel strongly affected by the state of the game in this moment. Did you have any opinions on the aspect of match-making and its effects on the average ranked player’s experience?
Same
Played my first game of Season 3 a few moments ago (Open Queue QP, wasn’t going to jump right into comp after such a break) and couldn’t even finish one round on Oasis before ragequitting after my team didn’t have a single elim when we were about to lose the round.
Rank inflation is a real problem killing the game. Once I thought gm was a prestigious title… It is just so unfair to people who have put effort in playing, improving and climbing thought the ladder.
Maybe fixing this mid season would cause frustration to some certain players but the problem is, they don’t deserve their current rank in the first place. Putting them back to where they belong is the move of righteousness.
As long as it is justified and fair, fixing the rank inflation asap is the best way to keep the game sustainable.
