Long loading times

When i start up overwatch, it takes a long time to actually load. Whether it’s the game itself, or loading into a match, but it takes so long to load up. The loading screen of the map takes a long time to go away. When loading into the match, i only see orbs floating around for like 10 seconds or so and then things start to load. This happens to me with marvel rivals as well, but doesn’t happen to anyone else on the same wifi or anything.

Do you have an older computer? Mine sharing some of your hardware specs?

Time to get an SSD, my dude.
The orbs are happening because there’s something to load there but something in your PC is slowing it down. So it doesn’t know what it is, just that it’s there.
Typically, it’s the older/slower HDDs that get this result. And the reason the others on your wifi aren’t getting it is because their PCs aren’t as old.

Now the shade part of this; The fact that you didn’t know this means you need to change your name. Sorry you had to find out like this.

Back when I had an HDD, I found that deleting the cache folder in the game’s directory after every session significantly reduced how long it takes for the stuff to load in.
With that said, I’d really suggest getting an SSD, it really is worth it, if you can afford doing so.

I used to have similar issue occasionally. I think it might have been caused by my game being installed on an external SSD. After I made some free space on my nvme drive drive and installed Overwatch on it, I haven’t had weird glitches like that since (player turning into orbs, my character turning invisible, UI disappearing, etc).

I think these type of glitches are a game file issue rather than internet connection but I could be wrong though.

As others have said. You need to upgrade your drive to an SSD, or even better an NVMe.

That or your CPU too while you’re at it, RAM as well if you’re not running 32 gb standard for gaming.

Good luck getting one cheaply, SSDs and RAM are through the roof atm. My RAM increased in price by like 2.5x in 3 months, from $89 to $204.

I just looked in my computer and i found what im assuming to be the ssd. It says WD_BLACK NVMe SSD Gen4 x4. I’m not really good with the internals of a pc, but if that’s the ssd, why would i still be having issuese?

This happens to me after every update for a game or two. Then it goes away.

Something about shaders caching after every update maybe?

These are different and not mutually exclusive. And for most games, there won’t be any real difference between sata and nvme.
However, their prices are roughly the same, so there’s no point in choosing sata over nvme, of course.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is “NVMe”?

I’m just a console gamer, so I don’t keep up with computer tech.

If you have an SSD, then its probably other components in your PC that is slowing down loading such as your video card, RAM or CPU.

Id recommend using some Benchmarking websites to assess the overall performance of your PC.

what kind of site would you recommend to help with that

My favorites are UserBenchmark, PassMark and 3DMark. You could also download software from the Windows Store, they are usually free, like PC Mark and FurMark.

I get nervous about going to websites that i dont know and seem sketchy, it seems like passmark is good but idk if the website i went to is the right one, do you know what the actual website is?

Its just www. passmark .com Then click on “Perfomance Test” then “Easy PC Benchmarking”.

i just did the tests, but idk what to do with the results. Everything was either 42 up to 85th percentile.

I just ran the test. Here are my results:

PassMark Rating: 3682 in the 32nd Percentile
CPU Mark: 7939 in the 33rd Percentile
Memory Mark: 2706 in the 50th Percentile
Disk Mark: 3668 in the 25th Percentile
3D Mark: 8916 in the 46th Percentile

The higher your percentile, the better your performance is compared to other people in the world who did the PassMark test. As you can see, my Disk Mark is low and CPU but I still get decent performance anyway.

If you are in the 42th Percentile and above on all categories, then you likely have a decent hardware.

Another test you can try is run OW2 in windowed mode with Task Manager → Performance running next to it (assuming you have Windows). Then when you are loading a map, watch your Performance monitoring to see what is bottlenecking your PC.

i’ll have to try this tomrrow then, i really appreciate you helping me out with trying to figure this out

No prob. Continue running benchmark tests/performance monitoring tests and you should be able to figure out the issue. Good luck :+1:

drivers were updated, the benchmark tests didn’t show anything really wrong, task manager isnt showing anything of concern, I’m genuinely at a loss and dont know what to do about it
