An i’m fed to the up with people saying it can’t. Syms beam had a latching range of 7m and a max range of 10 when she had locked on. you had to be in melee range for her to even get a chance to use it.
For the first second it did 30 damage that’s 30 lower than Winstons “tickle tazer” as many call it then the next second it did 60 damage the same as Winstons tickle tazer.
She also has no tankiness nor mid fight mitigation/escape abilities shes the glasscanoniest glasscanon to ever glass a canon
In short if you let Symmetra get that close to you, didn’t attempt to kill her before she got close (its not like she was particularly deadly at range with her amputated tortoise speed orbs) and then left her to ramp up for two seconds you deserve to get incinerated like an ant under a magnifier glass
If anything her beam required buffs but not in the way the devs thought it did i quote a post by Geoff “There was no way to increase her potential damage without removing the lockon” her POTENTIAL damage was never an issue 120 damage a second a direct pharah rocket every second was ample potential damage, the only damage buff most Sym mains wanted was to the first two levels 60-90-120 woulda been bae.

Honestly, I hated when she charged on some bad teammate and you were the one who had to deal with 120 dps because of it. They usually had their shield for me, too. On the other hand, I miss the lock-on.

Yes it can, but it can’t be perceived as balanced.

Why does she need to lock on though?

The more anti Genji tech in the game, the better, if you ask me.

Well place turrets make his life hard.

She doesn’t need a lock on. It wasn’t healthy. A lock on DPS should never be a thing.

Why does Winston need a Tesla canon, why does reaper need a shotgun, why does Genji need shuriken. They dont NEED it but its what they were designed with and its a downright scummy move to rip out a heroes primary fire and give them a weaker version of another heroes weapon. i fell in love with Sym not just because of her lockon but yes partly and its wrong that her primary fire was removed and replaced with something completely different.

That face when Toblerone exists, though. I just had a game where my turret basically held the first point without much of my help. Felt scummy, but my team did not want me carrying on Widow. When doing the most is just not good enough. And they did not even thank my turret for the draw either. Rude.
…Symmetra was designed with a photon beam and she still has a photon beam and her primary isnt completely different, it just doesnt lock on to targets.
If your tracking aim is good enough you shouldnt need it.

It also cant be used to mow down highly mobile targets like Genjis and Tracer Lucios. She was designed with a curving lockon beam with little to no range so you keep your distance and we got a beam with 2m more meters thats useless against highly mobile targets and equally useless against tanks. her primary is completely and utterly unequivocally different.

She can ramp her beam up on Tanks shields and subsequently melt anyone afterwards. Her turrets got better and destroy flankers even more so than her old primary.
Only difference is the lock on thing which again I dont get why she needs it, but its not totally different.

She just needs a better primary than the one she has now. It’s so weird.

four seconds of standing in the open to charge up on an enemy shield yes thats a great design for a weapon to actually become useful. Her turrets do less damage in total than they did before my old primary took flankers out much better with my old turrets. and it again is totally different if they took Genji and change his primary fire to now only throw one shuriken but you can throw them faster instead of three people would be complaining it doesn’t feel the same or change Winstons primary it now has to be melee only hits one target but does 90 damage. it is wrong to completely redesign a heroes primary fire.

They didnt redesign it though, they just removed the lock on. Of course you killed him faster with old turrets you had potentially six on a person at once plus your lock on.
Play to your strengths. Sym has high ground at the push of a button, maneuver around the tanks and get your charge that way.

holy words.
i will pretty much always agree with you as you have nearly the same attendance on sym related posts and we have a similar opinion. people didnt bother to attack sym that’s why she melted most.
I do but that is not the Sym i fell in love with i have no problem playing current Sym well, the issue is she no longer feels like Sym to play. And for the 3rd time they totally and utterly redesigned her beam and made it next to useless.

Honestly dude we just have to agree to disagree. A total redesign to me would be them taking away the photon beam entirely for a completely new gun entirely and her beam isnt useless but its practicality isnt always there which is why shes one of the few heros with an alt fire.
Best of luck to you.

Yeah but the turret is AI driven. It wont pick the best target and go for the kill and it cant move.
That would be like Sym goes in but she stops moving when her beam hits anyone. And it hits the first one to be in her pov, if theres a shield inbetween, she will fire at the shield
Sym can walk around and prioritize targets
Why am I here again?`The lock on debate is over and wont come back anyways, its better that way imho
